“Accompanying you to a fuller life”

Welcome to Driving Miss Daisy. I'm Janice and I provide a specialty assistance service for people living in Thunder Bay. As a long time Thunder Bay resident I take great pleasure in helping people in the community that I have lived in, worked in, and enjoyed for so many years. As my client you will be accompanied in comfort to wherever you need or want to go in

Thunder Bay. Friendly and courteous service awaits your request for independence. “From the time I meet you at your door – I am focused on you.” Our “through the door service” means we will come into your home to assist in getting ready if required. We will do the same at our destination ensuring you arrive safely and get where you need to be. I chose to become a "Daisy" as I felt there was a strong need for this valuable service within the Thunder Bay area. I have a walker and folding wheel-chair friendly vehicle - you need to be able to self transfer. I will assist and accompany you to:
•Medical and Dental Appointments
•Grocery Shopping
•Personal Shopping
•Liaison between medical staff and family
•Vacation Accompaniment
•Airport Service - assistance through to gate departure
•Adult Day Programs
•Social Functions
•Alzheimer Programs
•Companionship

If you or someone you care about is in need of the kind of personalized service Driving Miss Daisy offers, please call or email me for your FREE in home consultation. We can introduce ourselves and talk about how I can help you or your loved one.

For your information we are considered an essential service but only if absolutely required.
Where possible we are encouraging clients to stay home.

We have have installed a shield between the front seat and back seat.

At this time we are only taking clients to essential appointments.

Clients are called on the morning of their appointment and are screened to ensure they are feeling well and that they have not travelled and to their knowledge they have not come into contact with anyone that is not well.

We are still able offer the through the door service for seniors and those living with a disability.

We are operating one vehicle at this time, however we will bring a wheelchair van if required.

Appointments must still be pre-booked.

Call us if you are running low on groceries or whatever you need. We will take your order, shop for and deliver groceries or pharmacy items.

If you are feeling uncertain, bored or lonely and want to talk, anyone can call us for a chat free of charge. If you don’t reach me, leave a message and I will return your call as soon as I can.

Being Good to Yourself

Due to health problems, trouble paying bills, or other reasons, many older adults may feel lonely, sad, low and stressed. You may not feel like doing anything, not eat enough or overeat. Being good to yourself may help improve your “get up and go”, eating habits and health

Here are some ideas for Being Good to Yourself

+ Get enough sleep
+ Stay in touch with family and friends to keep your spirits up.
+ Join a walking group
+ Surround yourself with people you enjoy.

Remember, it is never too late to improve your eating plan, be more physically active and be good to yourself for a healthier life.

Tip sheet for Older Adults

+ Eat breakfast every day
+ Select high-fiber foods like whole-grain breads and cereals, beans, vegetables and fruits.
+ Have 3 servings of vitamin D-fortified low-fat or fat-free milk, yogurt or cheese every day to help keep your bones strong as you age.
+ Drink plenty of water or water-based fluids.
+ Ask your health care provider about ways you can safely increase your physical activity.
+ Fit physical activity into your everyday life. Take short walks throughout your day.
+ Stay connected with family, friends and your community.
