Experience a breathtaking fusion of ancient tradition and explosive artistry! Tracing its roots back over 300 years as a sacred ritual to honor ancestral spirits, Kumano Fireworks Festival now transforms a charming seaside town of 14,000 into a vibrant hub of 120,000 spectators for one unforgettable night.

Held annually on August 17th, this event sees 10,000 fireworks launched directly from the sea. The rugged cliffs of "Onigajo" (Demon's Castle), a UNESCO World Heritage site, act as a natural sounding board, amplifying the thunderous echoes of the explosions. Beyond the show itself, this area is home to sweeping shores, as well as the ancient stone paths of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trail.

The Kuroishi Neputa Festival takes place every year for seven days starting on July 30 in Kuroishi City, Aomori Prefecture. During the festival, you can try making your own lantern using actual Neputa paintings from the event. Choose and combine your favorite sections from the colorful, square-cut artworks to create a truly one-of-a-kind piece!

The experience takes place at Handmade Workshop Irodori, located along the charming Nakamachi Komise Street. Enjoy this special hands-on activity where tradition meets art.
