Forest of Reading

Forest of Reading With the goal of encouraging a love of reading, the Forest of Reading has ten programs that celebrate Canadian books, authors and illustrators annually.

The Forest of Reading gives readers of all ages and skill levels the opportunity to read the best of Canada's fiction, non-fiction and picture book titles. Each year, over 250,000 readers participate in the program, making it Canada's largest recreational reading program. Readers embrace a love of reading through registering for the program, reading selected/nominated titles, and voting for their

favourite title! How do you get involved in the Forest? It's simple! In October, visit forestofreading.com to register for the program. Participate with your school, library, community group, or read on your own. In April, visit the Forest of Reading website to cast your vote for your favourite title, and in May, meet your favourite authors and illustrators at the Festival of Trees! Visit the Festival website at http://forestfestivaloftrees.ca/. Please Note: Golden Oak and Evergreen programs are on a different timeline than the school-aged programs only. Please visit the Forest of Reading website for more information on adult programs.

A true advocate for reading and champion of the Forest of Reading, Amy was a dedicated White Pine Committee member as well as a moderator on the Teen Committee during its first two years.

Amy, you will be so missed by the Forest of Reading and book-loving community.

It is with deep sadness that we share with you that our dear friend Amy Mathers passed away on May 21, 2026. Amy's kindness, positive outlook, and sense of humour are an inspiration to us and to the book community as a whole.
