New Recessed Panel Fibreglass Columns and a new Aluminum Soffit installed. We went from odd sized columns to square so the existing soffit would have too big a gap to fill. It was better to just change out the soffit so it fits properly.

These 100 year old columns were in reasonably good shape considering their age. Sadly everything has its time and they needed to be replaced with durable, maintenance free, fibreglass columns.
Our columns are historically accurate and make a great replacement for Torontos beautiful older homes.

Another happy customer. We were there to replace the columns but found that the previous contractors had used indoor MDF to create her outdoor beams. A BIG no no.

We took the old material out and used maintenance free, weather proof and durable PVC to wrap her beams properly. Boom, instantly better.

Does Column Guru Paint? Why yes, yes we do paint.
There is an additional charge for painting but we will paint your columns using high quality primer and paint. If you want a specific colour other than white, you can choose and purchase the paint.

We understand that anyone can paint, but not everyone enjoys painting. It takes time to paint properly and do a clean job without getting paint everywhere, don’t ask how I know.

The stone guys left this mess on this homeowners porch. They just filled the rotted column with some extra concrete they had.

Terrible idea, this rots the column further and is really difficult to remove without damaging your VERY EXPENSIVE new stone porch. After some analysis and very careful chipping, we got it out and got new columns installed.

Rotted Balcony Columns? Usually means rotted balcony supports. When we encounter this, we need to fix this before it gets worse. It usually requires new water proofing, aluminum curb and new wood to replace the rotting wood.

It’s an expense but it’s definitely necessary for the longevity of your balcony and to ensure the rot doesn’t extend into your home.

Challenging installations are always the most interesting when completed. This Historic farmhouse in Durham Region needed a porch facelift to fit in with the homes being build around it.

We removed the old trim work from around the porch roof and installed new Recessed Panel Fibreglass Columns. The porch will stand for another 100 years with these new columns in place.

Clues that your PORCH is rotted or that theres a water leak.

1. Look at your porch roof from above and see if water is pooling up on one side or corner of the roof. It’s likely that the drain is not positioned where the water is pooling.

2. Look for Black mold on the column tops, surrounding areas under the beams, rotted wood on the face of the fascia.

3. Look for peeling paint, or spots where the paint had flaked off. This is a very good indication that there is water leaking behind that spot, or close to it.

4. Your columns will typically rot from the bottom, however, when they are rotting up top as well, you will definitely find water leaking in from the roof above.
5. Your porch leans to one side and is severely angled when looking at it from the street.

Steps to fixing this issue? (Some steps to be completed by professional Roofers)

1. Before replacing the columns, we need to have a good look at where the issue lies. This can mean removing the soffit (ceiling) to get in initial idea of how bad it might be.

2. Next step would be to remove the Fascia, water proof membrane and aluminum curb from the floor of the roof.

3. Locate the rotted wood portion and replace it.

4. Install a new water proof membrane and new aluminum curb. (to be completed by Roofers)

We use PVC sheets to create a new fascia that is both durable and water proof. We have various styles of fascia available depending on the height of your porch and space available. The PVC sheets require a coat of paint once installed and then every 10 - 15 years.
