Snow days in St. John’s just hit different ❄️

From the iconic jelly bean houses lining the streets to cozy cafés tucked away from the wind, this city turns winter into an experience, not an inconvenience.

Did you know?
St. John’s is one of the snowiest and windiest cities in Canada, thanks to its position along the Atlantic. But that same climate creates dramatic ocean views, misty coastlines, and a charm you won’t find anywhere else.

Start your day wandering through colourful row houses, warm up with a coffee at a local café, then take in the icy ocean views where land meets the Atlantic. It’s the perfect mix of cozy and wild.

Chasing the first sunrise in North America 🌅

At Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Site, you’re standing at the easternmost point of the continent, where the sun rises before anywhere else in North America.

Did you know?
Cape Spear sits at about 52°37′W longitude, making it the first place on the continent to catch the day’s earliest light. On clear mornings, you can watch the sky shift from deep blue to fiery orange as the Atlantic horizon comes alive.

It’s more than just a sunrise - it’s a moment of stillness, perspective, and a reminder of how vast and beautiful the edge of the world can feel.

Dolphins, open water, and moments you can’t plan.
Experience marine wildlife up close on the Atlantic in Newfoundland.

Did you know?

The waters around Newfoundland are home to some of the richest marine ecosystems in the North Atlantic, attracting dolphins, whales, and seabirds year-round. Cold, nutrient-rich waters off Newfoundland create the perfect environment for dolphins and other marine life to thrive.

Ever wonder what happens during a Newfoundland Screech-In? 🤨 It’s part ceremony, part comedy, and all heart.

Participants have to:

1. Eat a piece of Newfoundland steak (bologna!) 🥩

2. Kiss a (usually frozen) codfish 🐟

3. Take a shot of Screech rum 🥃

4. Recite the oath: 'Deed I is, me ol' c**k! And long may yer big jib draw!' ⛵️

It’s the most fun you’ll ever have becoming 'official.' Comment below if you're brave enough to kiss the fish? 👇

They say you come to Newfoundland as a stranger and leave as family. 🎻 There is nothing quite like a kitchen party; where the fiddles start playing, the tea is always hot, and the stories never end. It’s a culture built on resilience, laughter, and making sure there’s always an extra chair at the table.

Who’s ready for a scuff? 💃🕺
