After finishing college in Niagara Falls, I headed out West to see the Canada's Rocky Mountains. I spent two summers in a (not-so-well-known) place called Waterton Lakes National Park, and in the meantime, did some backpacking in Europe. I settled in Calgary, Alberta for about 6 years, until I purchased a motorcycle and the draw to a new and more mild destination called to me. After two years of w
orking too much and barely "getting by" I went on a trip to Ireland... that's where my "travel" adventures began. As the story goes, I had some drinks in Ireland and decided I wanted to live there. A Canadian girl working at a hostel told me to apply for a "work visa", and when I enquired with a friend as to the process - he advised I go to Australia. "They drink a lot and they talk funny, but it's warmer" he said... and in a blur the decision was made. Within a month I packed my things and headed to Aussie. A one year visa turned into two. I started in Perth, went down south, and then north along the west coast to Darwin. From there I flew to Tasmania for a visit, and from Melbourne up the red center, saving the east coast for last. Departing the land down under, I spent a month in Indonesia, where the Aussies seem to vacation. After that, I bounced around Europe for a bit before moving to Thailand for 6 months to "save the elephants" and teach English. I came back to Canada to ride my motorcycle on a solo trip from Vancouver to Toronto, and gift it to my dad as a retirement present... then I moved to New Zealand, to see if it was in fact better than Australia. I loved both the north and south islands equally, learned how to convert a cargo van into a camper van, and saw a few volcanos... and then I came up with my next plan: I would take about three years to travel South and Central America, starting from the south, learning Spanish along the way, and eventually head north through Mexico, the USA and Canada and settle in the Yukon for a bit. It was a great plan until covid19 happened and I became "stuck" in Chile. Logic won out (eventually) and I flew back to Ontario to be closer to family. Turns out my soulmate was waiting in my hometown for me... and his career being in Ontario, here we are...
We moved to Quinte West three years back, and I am absolutely loving it. I see a lot of opportunity in the area, and the small town feel is unbeatable. We still go on trips every chance we get. And I now realize that planning other peoples adventures, gives me the same joy as experiencing my own. So... that's (the short version of) my story :)
