Until the mid 20th century, Twillingate was a small, isolated fishing outport. As such, those who went fishing would have to construct their own boats. While this is no longer a necessity today, the tradition still lives on in the area. You can learn all about the historical importance of wooden fishing boats as well as the people today who are keeping the tradition alive at the Wooden Boat Museum! With a museum full of exhibits downstairs and a live workshop upstairs, you can get an exclusive look into the process behind these important vessels!

While Newfoundland may be best known for it's stunning natural coastline, the inland forests are some of the most beautiful in the world too! If you're looking for a hike that shows less of the ocean and more of Twillingate's beautiful woods, check out the Top of Twillingate Hiking Trail! This moderate trail offers beautiful views of the surrounding tree-blanketed hills, as well as a 360 degree watch tower at it's peak, offering breathtaking views of all of Twillingate Island!
