This is what independence looks like after experiential learning.

Through intentional roles, meaningful challenges, and opportunities for reflection, students deepen their understanding of themselves and the world around them. Given the time, space, and support to explore who they are, they discover their unique strengths, build confidence, and step into the person they are meant to become.

Growth happens when young people are trusted to lead, learn, and find their own way.

Years ago, a remarkable student from the Philippines joined one of our educational travel programs in Canada.

During the program, they explored British Columbia, visited Canadian schools and universities, met new people, and experienced what life and education in Canada could look like firsthand.🇨🇦

What they didn’t realize then was that the experience would eventually shape the direction of their future.

That trip planted a seed.

For the first time, studying abroad no longer felt distant or impossible.

It became real.
Attainable.
Something they could actually picture for themselves.

Years later, that same student made the decision to move to Canada and pursue post-secondary education at the University of British Columbia.

This spring, they graduated from UBC. An award-winning university consistently ranked among the top institutions in the world, offering pathways that open doors to some of the most competitive and respected opportunities globally.🎓🌎

As parents, that is often all we want for our children: the chance to access the best possible opportunities, to see their potential fully realized, and to step into a future that feels bigger than the one we could have imagined for them.

It is about giving them access to experiences that expand what they believe is possible.đź’«

Meet Our Program & Experience Guide – Elizabeth Otero

We’re proud to introduce Elizabeth, a passionate outdoor educator, guide, and mentor whose experience and compassion help create safe, meaningful, and unforgettable learning experiences for students. 💫

With more than 5 years of experience in tourism, outdoor recreation, visitor engagement, and guided educational programs, Elizabeth has worked with leading organizations across British Columbia. 🇨🇦

Her background leading groups, guiding outdoor adventures, and working with international visitors has given her extensive experience creating engaging, inclusive, and well-supported experiences for young people from all walks of life. From environmental education and cultural interpretation to outdoor safety and group leadership, Elizabeth brings both professionalism and heart to everything she does.

What makes Elizabeth’s story especially meaningful is that she was once an international student herself.

Originally from Colombia, Elizabeth arrived in Vancouver alone, navigating a new culture, language, climate, and way of life. Through resilience, determination, and curiosity, she built a life rooted in community, exploration, and connection. Her personal journey allows her to understand the emotions, challenges, and growth that students experience when they travel and learn abroad.

Today, she uses those experiences to help students feel welcomed, supported, encouraged, and inspired as they step outside their comfort zones and discover the world around them.

Elizabeth is passionate about nature, cultural connection, and creating experiences that leave a positive impact on people and the world. Whether she’s leading outdoor activities, sharing stories with students, or helping young travellers build confidence, she brings warmth, energy, and authenticity everywhere she goes.💙💚

Global Action Week for Education is a reminder that education is about far more than textbooks and classrooms.🌎

It’s about shaping confident, compassionate young people ready to navigate an interconnected world.

For parents, this week often brings a simple yet powerful reflection: what kind of experiences will prepare my child for their future?

We have the answer…

Experiential learning.✨

Because some lessons simply can’t be taught in a classroom.

They are learned the first time a student steps into a completely new environment and realizes they can adapt.

They happen when young people work through challenges together and discover resilience they didn’t know they had.

They stay with them in the quiet moments of reflection after a day unlike anything they’d known before.

Confidence grows. Curiosity deepens. Perspective expands.

And suddenly, the world feels a little bigger, and their place in it a little clearer.

For families, choosing these opportunities is about investing in growth that extends far beyond a single trip. It’s about giving young people the chance to build independence, form meaningful connections, and see themselves as capable of more than they imagined.

This week, we honour the importance of education in all its forms and the families who believe in learning that extends beyond the classroom and into the world.

Because sometimes, the most powerful lessons your child will ever learn are the ones they LIVE. đź’šđź’™

Parents notice it almost immediately.

Not in what their child says, but in what they do.đź’«

Taking initiative without being asked. Sticking with something a little longer when it gets difficult. Making decisions with more confidence and less hesitation.

It doesn’t come from a single lesson or lecture. It comes from being placed in environments where things feel unfamiliar, routines aren’t set, answers aren’t provided, and small decisions suddenly matter.

In those moments, young people begin to rely on themselves in a new way. They learn to navigate, communicate, and adapt without someone stepping in to guide every move.

At first, it’s uncomfortable. Then it becomes growth. 💪🏼

And when they come home, that growth shows up in ways that last:
More independence.
More resilience.
More confidence in who they are and what they’re capable of.
A stronger sense of direction and drive to shape their future.

At 2 Degrees, we call this the 2-degree shift… where small experiences quietly change everything that follows. 🤫➡️

As International Earth Day approaches, we are reminded that sustainability is about more than protecting the environment. It’s about preparing young people for the future they will enter. ➡️

Industries are changing. Careers in renewable energy, sustainable design, environmental science, and circular-economy innovation are growing rapidly. At the same time, traditional sectors are shifting toward more responsible use of materials and resources.

Helping young people understand these changes early gives them an advantage.❗️

Here are a few simple ways families can support that learning at home:

🌍 Connect everyday choices to larger systems
Discuss where products come from and what happens when items are thrown away. These conversations build systems thinking, an important skill for future careers.

♻️ Encourage up cycling
Instead of treating waste as “done,” encourage youth to rethink materials creatively. This mirrors real-world innovation in sustainable design and development.

🌱 Highlight smarter material choices
Whether it’s clothing, or school supplies, help young people notice how materials are selected and why that matters for the environment and future industries.

đź’Ľ Talk about future careers early
From clean energy to engineering to sustainable business practices, many of tomorrow’s strongest career paths are already emerging. Early awareness helps children connect their interests to real-world opportunities.

Earth Week is a reminder that the skills we build today shape the opportunities they’ll have tomorrow. 🌎

“Why-cation”

In 2026, travel isn’t just about the destination. It’s about meaningful experiences.

People are choosing to travel based on how they can grow, learn, and see the world differently. For students, these adventures can be life-changing, shaping not just what they do, but who they become.

At 2 Degrees Travel, every journey is thoughtfully designed to help students:
➡️ Step outside their comfort zone in a safe and supported environment
➡️ Connect deeply with new cultures and communities
➡️ Build resilience, confidence, and leadership skills
➡️ Reflect on their values and their role in the world

This is purpose-driven travel, where every challenge and every discovery contribute to growth, helping teens become thoughtful, capable, and globally aware young adults.

Give your teen more than just a trip. They’ll return home with perspective, memories, and skills that last a lifetime.

So, why-cation?

To grow, to learn, to discover, and to become the best version of themselves.đź’«

Every parent watches their child grow and wonders: Who will they becomeâť“

There comes a moment in every teen’s life when they ask themselves: “Who am I?”

It’s a time of discovery, of testing limits, and figuring out what matters most to them.

Experiential learning opens doors to that self-discovery. When students travel, immerse themselves in new cultures, and face challenges outside their comfort zones, they begin to understand themselves in ways that everyday life can’t always provide.

They see their strengths, explore interests, and even start to connect those discoveries to possible career paths and futures.

At 2 Degrees Travel, we design experiences that guide teens through this critical “Who Am I?” phase.

Through real-world experiences, cultural immersion, and guided reflection, students develop confidence, independence, and a stronger sense of purpose.

The result? Teens who return more self-aware, capable, and ready to take on the world. Teens you can feel proud of, knowing they’re stepping confidently toward their future. 💚💙

Today we celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science 🔬🌎

As parents, you want your child to feel confident in who they are, and prepared for whatever future they choose.

On this International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we recognize how critical it is for girls to gain real-world exposure to science, technology, and problem-solving in ways that build both confidence and capability.

Through 2 Degrees Travel programs, participants engage in hands-on experiences connected to environmental systems, engineering challenges, and innovation.

Along the way, they strengthen critical thinking, collaboration, adaptability, and leadership… skills that extend far beyond the program itself.

We’ve seen girls from our programs go on to pursue studies in fields such as engineering, environmental science, and robotics, carrying forward not only knowledge, but the confidence to step into traditionally underrepresented spaces. 🛰️🌱🤖

For families seeking meaningful experiences that contribute to long-term growth and future pathways, our programs are designed with that outcome in mind.

👉 Explore our upcoming programs to see how your child can gain the skills, perspective, and confidence to shape their future.
