Prince of Whales Whale Watching

Prince of Whales Whale Watching Experience BC's Best Whale Watching with Prince of Whales! Don't miss this adventure of a lifetime πŸ’™ All crew is Transport Canada certified.

An innovative leader in the eco-tourism industry, Alan McGillivray, the founder of Prince of Whales, started this company in 1994 with one small boat that was used to deliver newspaper and mail bundles to the Gulf Islands in the morning and to take people whale watching in the afternoon. Our small company has now grown to be the first choice for whale watching in both Victoria and Vancouver. We cu

rrently operate 10 high-speed open-air zodiac style vessels and two Ocean Magic Class Express Cruisers. The Ocean Magic boats were purpose-built in 2005 and are state-of-the-art vessels that lessen effects on the animal environment by reducing the amount of noise created and by carrying more passengers within one boat. We also boast 3 world-class efficient catamarans, with heated indoor seating in both Victoria and Vancouver

Each of our eco-tours are hosted by naturalists and skippers who strive to provide an exhilarating experience that is both safe and educational. They are all very proud and protective of the animals and are happy to help you identify individuals within our resident killer whale pods. As the largest Whale Watching and Eco-Adventure Company in BC, and a founding member of the Pacific Whale Watching Association, we are proud to be a leader in responsible whale watching and to have served as teaching platforms for whale research.

Double-breaching into the weekend!

A little heatwave is headed our way... and we know the perfect place to cool off. While the city heats up, temperatures on the water stay refreshingly comfortable thanks to the ocean breeze. Which is the perfect excuse for a whale watching trip!

The crop vs. the shot πŸ‘€πŸ‹

Our naturalists and photographers use high-powered cameras equipped with 500–600mm telephoto lenses, allowing us to capture incredible detail from a safe and respectful distance.

Responsible wildlife viewing means giving animals the space they need while using technology to bring the experience to you.

World Oceans Day is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible waters that sustain marine life, coastal communities, and unforgettable wildlife experiences. At Prince of Whales, protecting the ocean isn’t just something we talk about, it’s at the heart of everything we do.
Over the past year, we have proudly invested in organizations working to protect and restore marine ecosystems across British Columbia. Through our Conservation Fund, we contributed $40,000 to the Pacific Salmon Foundation to support herring & salmon conservation and habitat restoration, $20,000 to the Marine Education and Research Society (MERS) to support their disentanglement programs, and $10,000 to the Surfrider Foundation to help keep our coastlines and waterways clean, amongst many other projects.
These contributions complement our broader sustainability efforts, and this World Oceans Day, we thank our guests, staff, and partners for helping us make a positive impact, and always pushing us to do more.

Happy Ocean Week!

Today we are out in the lower causeway in Victoria’s beautiful inner harbour with our educational specimen table to talk to our local community about all of the incredible species that inhabit the Salish sea.

Our marine biologist and lead naturalist Reid will be here all afternoon to answer all of your questions and share some fun facts about these beautiful creatures. At Prince of Whales, we believe that we protect what we know and love, and learning about our biodiversity is the first step in conservation.

Come on down, and happy πŸ‹πŸ’™

Thank you for the specimens!
