Was lucky to witness otters mating under the dock at the marina, an incredible and rare behavior to observe. While I felt bad for the female, as it can appear quite aggressive and lasted for hours, this is actually consistent with documented reproductive behavior in otters.
During mating, the male may grasp the female to maintain position, especially in water, which can make the interaction seem intense. mating can be prolonged and physically demanding. Females also exhibit delayed implantation, meaning the fertilized egg doesn’t immediately develop, allowing birth to occur under favorable environmental conditions.
Experiences like this highlight how wildlife behavior, though sometimes uncomfortable to witness, is driven by evolutionary adaptations that maximize reproductive success and survival. 🦦🌊

Today we watched the Orcas gliding through Burrard Inlet like nothing else mattered, completely unbothered by the boats all around them. They came so close to us!

You guessed it…a steaming hot shower on the boat!
Yesterday, April & Tom got to try it out after the successful deployment of the underwater hydrophone in Howe Sound 🌊🎧
They’re the founders of one of the most reputable conservation organizations out there and they’re actually making a difference by doing, not just talking. Huge respect for the effort and organization they put into making yesterday’s mission run so smoothly
