We could also use some help staffing our outreach table on both days. Even a couple of hours could help. Please let me know if you would be willing. Happy to expense coffee/snacks/lunch as needed.

What, Who, Where - What they are, who we are and where do they take us!

Please join us for two of the most popular presenters. Todd Powell and Stefan Feldman speaking on the ACC Vancouver Section Courses and Skills. An explanation of what the courses/skills are, who can participate, who in the section helps to deliver them and what special places do they take us to. They will showcase people, scenes and trips to various locations highlighting all of this. Hopefully it will peak your interest to participate in the courses or perhaps in their delivery and to discover a new area you might want to go visit. NOT too be missed.

Notice of Special General Meeting April 28 to ratify ACC-Vancouver Section Governance Policy to meet ACC National “Requirements of Sections Policy”

A short Special General Meeting of the ACC Vancouver section will be held on April 28 at 7:00pm. This will be held a few minutes before the regular social. The purpose of the meeting is to approve changes to the wording/formatting to meet our ACC (National) “Requirements of Sections Policy”.

As the Section already had a robust governance policy which was updated and approved on Sept 24, 2025 to update our Executive structure and to tweak the way we govern, we had to change very little in this go around, mostly just formatting. ie. Title change from “Bylaws” to “ACC-V Section Governance Policy”, additional words to differentiate the Section from National and the formatting.

How the Section governs itself from the Sept 24, 2025 date, has not changed.

VIMFF 2026 is taking over theatres this winter! 🎬

From February 27 to March 11, the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival () returns with in-person film nights and live guest appearances across the Lower Mainland and Sea to Sky, now including screenings in Coquitlam and West Vancouver.

Come for the films, stay for the conversations, and experience the festival the way it’s meant to be seen together ⛰️

With 20 plus in-person shows to choose from!

We will be there on Opening Night, so come by and say hi 👋🏼

Our February AGM/Social is upcoming on Feb 24, 2026 at Van Dusen Gardens. It will be posted to the calendar to sign up shortly so make sure to check the calendar and sign up so we know the numbers. Come and hear what’s been happening in the section and to support the hard working volunteers who have put their names forward for election to serve our section membership. Ensure your section membership is up to date to be eligible to vote. 

You will also be treated to a presentation from local ACMG Apprentice Alpine Guide, .
Brent will discuss new routing in BC. From the longest bolted climb in North America, Guaranteed Rugged 33 pitches, to winter ice and mixed climbs on the coast. Brent takes us on a journey around southwest BC, exploring the four seasons of first ascents. Within the presentation he will talk about the new routers responsibility and ethics to future climbers and generations. 

Brent is currently, an ACMG Apprentice Alpine Guide, and Owner/Operator of VMG Vancouver Mountain Guides here in the city. He has been climbing for 37 years with much of that time spent exploring unclimbed rock and ice. He has first ascents across climbing disciplines including bouldering, sport,  alpine, ice, and mixed. 

We will also have a free book exchange table! There will be older guidebooks, mountaineering books, and magazines available for members to take. This is also an opportunity to share your own books, etc with other members.

Alpine Kazakhstan & Peak Marble Wall

Explore the alpine regions of Kazakhstan - a country defined by vast wilderness, towering glaciated peaks, and incredible climbing potential. Local ACC Vancouver member Miras Taskinbayev, a Kazakh mountaineer, introduces remote and beautiful zones like the Tuyuksu and Bayankol regions: places that combine dramatic alpine terrain with minimal crowds and surprisingly good access.

Discover why the Kazakh Tien Shan is a hidden gem for mountaineers - featuring peaks like Talghar, Marble Wall, and Khan Tengri— and what makes the area appealing for international expeditions, ski tours, and mixed alpine objectives.

In the second part, take a closer look at the plan for a 2025 expedition to Peak Marble Wall (6,300 m), a massive, remote summit along the Kazakhstan–China border. The presentation will cover the route, approach, technical demands, and challenges of organizing expeditions in this part of the Tien Shan.

With stunning photos and firsthand insight, this talk is ideal for climbers interested in remote ranges, lesser-known peaks, and international alpine adventure.

Please join us on November 25 for our monthly social!

Enjoy a presentation on ski-mountaineering in the St. Elias Mountains located in the southwest corner of the Yukon within Kluane National Park. Section members Paul and Willa Geddes participated in several trips to this vast area in the 1990’s and 2000’s.

Their camps were set up on some of the largest nonpolar icefields in the world. There are still opportunities for first ascents in these mountains, including the highest unclimbed summit in North America.

Come on out and see spectacular photos of the area, hear the stories and get motivated to to plan your own trip to this amazing place.

This month, we’re featuring a presentation of an amazing ski traverse through the fiords of Baffin Island.

‘Extreme Sightseeing: A Ski Traverse Among Some of the World’s Greatest Rock Walls’

Manrico Scremin, his wife Liz, and three friends did a three-week, 135 km ski traverse on the remote east coast of Baffin Island. Their meandering route took them past some of the greatest rock walls in the world. Many of those spires and walls make the Grand Wall on the Stawamus Chief look like a little crag.

The Clyde River area on Baffin Island attracts climb
ers and base jumpers from around the world. Manrico and Liz have done numerous ski, backpack, and canoe trips in the arctic including three trips on Baffin Island and two trips on Ellesmere Island which is the world’s second most northerly island after Greenland.

The wall on one of the peaks shown in this presentation has a physical feature which is a world record. Come to the presentation to see which peak/wall and what record.
