This page is dedicated to the classic working vessel Providence built in Denmark in 1903, and to all who have voyaged on her past and present.

- Built: 1903, N. Nielsen & Son, Frederikshavn, DK
- Worked in the North Sea as Anchor seiner
- Commandeered by Germany in WWII
- Worked in Royal Danish Navy and Danish Maritime Home Guard
- Bought by Peter Thor Watson in 1978 and sailed to Victoria, BC.
- Major refit by Peter Watson in 1984
- Caribbean adventures with Peter and his family
- Converted to a fish packer by Peter and worked on BC coa

- 2003 retired from packing on 100th birthday
- Currently home base is Britannia Shipyard National Historic Site, Steveston BC. Under the command of Simon Fawkes desperately seeking new adventures.

This summer, the journey is part of the destination.
Sailing out of Explore Sidney and into The Southern Gulf Islands with Providence Sail Cargo. Slow travel, open water, and a front-row seat to the coast.

Our new home base for our 2026 season.

We’re excited to announce that our home port for the upcoming season will be Sidney! A move inspired by our desire to deliver an even richer sailing experience.

Nestled along the stunning coastline of Sidney, this new home base places us at the heart of vibrant coastal communities, thriving wildlife, and incredible ports of call, all coming together to create truly unforgettable moments on the water.

Starting in June, our regularly scheduled programming will include:

⛵️Weekly overnight voyages through the breathtaking Gulf Islands
⛵️Weekend sails departing from Port Sidney
⛵️Joining the beloved Sidney Street Market every Thursday

A new chapter, a beautiful harbour, and so many adventures ahead.

Cheers to an unforgettable season! Thank you to everyone who visited us at the dock, waved at us on the water or came sailing aboard. Memories were shared and fun was had.
