Burrowing Owls are arguably one of the most adorable owl species out there!

They live in underground burrows that
have been dug by themselves or other wildlife such as ground squirrels.

They prefer grassland, desert and open habitats where they prey on insects and rodents.

Unfortunately, their population has declined due to land conversion and habitat loss.

If you're lucky enough to see one like we were, give it plenty of space and enjoy observing from a distance :)

🦉Birding is better on the trail! This fall and winter season, witness the incredible abundance of migratory birds that fly from the Arctic and beyond to stay in and around Metro Vancouver. But don't get too close! These birds need to conserve their energy and they rely on the natural habitats to rest, forage and survive.

I recently had the pleasure of guiding a client from Australia, here are some of our raptor highlights!

1) Great looks at a Northern Harrier🌟
2) Great Horned Owl with Green-winged Teal prey 👀

Client testimonial:

"I highly recommend Birding with Kris. Whether you’re a beginner or a lifetime Lister, he has much to offer. I came to Vancouver to experience the fall migration on the Fraser Delta and needed a guide who could help me find and enjoy the birds. Kris‘s website is excellent and he responds quickly to emails. I was able to set up mutually agreeable dates quickly. He provided transportation and a wonderful itinerary. I had two of the most memorable days Birding.
Chris quickly recognised. I was a serious birder. He carried a scope everywhere we went and was skilled at getting both large and small birds viewable quickly. I appreciated his willingness to create and share Ebird lists. We even chased up a rarity—- a white wagtail —-and he was so willing to share his knowledge of the birds, their environment and the local landscape. Again I highly recommend Kris for beginners and experts alike."
