The Outdoor Family Life A place for inspiration to get families outside adventuring! When I was growing up, we spent many weekends and summers camping in the Pacific Northwest.

Our trips consisted of everything from reading, playing games and other quiet activities like sitting by the campfire, to biking, waterskiing (with our dated little bayliner with a 65 HP outboard motor), swimming, fishing, and even hiking. We explored cities, monuments, natural wonders and traveled across much of the Western US over the years. The question was never whether or not we would camp an

d explore, only how many weekends of good weather we would get, and where we would head next. When I married, I assumed that my husband would share my love of the outdoors, but sadly over the years, the tents were loaned out (permanently), bit by bit our supplies were given away, and we stopped. After having school-age kids (with much pressure from me), we agreed to try a little travel-trailer to find our way outdoors again in a way we could both enjoy. It was a success, and we found that the ‘luxury’ that I used to scoff at as a kid was actually a pretty decent way to get out of the house and into nature. Now, as a single mom of two rapidly growing boys (Thing 1 and Thing 2), I’m continuing the tradition of camping, exploring, hiking, biking, fishing and more, and sharing both our adventures, and all the learning I gained as a kid, and as an adult so that potentially more folks might find a way to reconnect with the outdoors. Having tried many different ways to enjoy the outdoors from hiking, to tents to RV’s (and loving all of them!), my intention is not to push one way or another in enjoying the outside – it’s all good, and in the end of the day, it’s all about breathing that fresh air, and experiencing the simplified life of camping, however you choose to do it. You’ll find in these pages tips & techniques on camping and engaging your kids in the outdoors; maintenance advice on gear, bikes, RV’s, tents, etc; activity ideas for rainy days, science experiments and survival skills; trip plans and daytrip ideas; product reviews; Dutch Oven. BBQ and Campfire recipes; camping hacks, and more. Product Recommendations:
If I recommend a product or service, it’s because I have tried it and think it’s the best option for value and price (I will usually include why I feel this is the case within a specific post as well). If you feel you have a better product, I am willing to evaluate it, but this does not guarantee that I will review it online, if I find it to be less favourable than what I have already reviewed (although I may make note of the other options available).
