More and more North American travellers are choosing Germany for their European vacations as they look beyond the traditional favourites and discover more of what the country has to offer.

With this growing interest CG Journeys together with local tourism boards recently organized a FAM trip for a select group of travel advisors exploring Frankfurt, Wurzburg, Nuremberg, Leipzig and Berlin.

The journey started in Frankfurt with a guided walk through the historic Romerberg and New Old Town followed by a cruise along the Main River, lunch at the riverside Gerbermuhle and a fun velotaxi ride back into the city. The group also had a chance to experience Frankfurt’s local restaurants and hospitality.

From Frankfurt the group continued to Wurzburg to visit the UNESCO-listed Wurzburg Residence before heading to Nuremberg to explore its history, Old Town and local culinary traditions.

The journey continued to Leipzig where advisors explored the city’s hotel scene, visited the Bach Museum and Virtual Bach Experience and discovered more of Leipzig’s art, culture and historic centre.

Our FAM trip to Latvia together with Latvijas Investīciju un attīstības aģentūra - LIAA continued with visits to Bauska Castle and Rundale Palace followed by a stay in Jurmala where our advisors experienced Latvia’s beautiful Baltic coast, local gastronomy and wellness.

An important part of the FAM was connecting with the local travel industry. Our advisors took part in a workshop with Latvian tour operators and tourism partners meeting new partners, learning about new products and getting a better understanding of what’s happening in the Latvian market.

The group then returned to Riga for more time in the Old Town including Riga Dome Cathedral, a tasting of the famous Riga Black Balsam and a fun gingerbread masterclass to wrap up the program.

CG Journeys in collaboration with Latvijas Investīciju un attīstības aģentūra - LIAA recently hosted a FAM trip for a select group of Canadian travel advisors giving them the opportunity to experience Latvia firsthand and discover what makes the country such a unique and diverse destination.

The journey began in Riga with its beautiful Art Nouveau architecture, vibrant Central Market and historic Old Town, before continuing into the Latvian countryside. Highlights included Gauja National Park and Sigulda, Turaida Museum Reserve, Gutman’s Cave, a cable car ride over the Gauja River Valley and a visit to Sigulda New Castle. The group also discovered medieval Cēsis, experienced traditional Latvian bread making, visited local manors and wellness retreats and explored the magnificent Rundāle Palace. A wonderful mix of culture, history, nature, local flavours and authentic Latvian experiences🇱🇻

Albania, an emerging destination that has been on our radar for some time was the final stop of our multi-country Balkan FAM.

Our advisors stayed along the Adriatic coast in Durrës while also exploring Tirana and Berat. Berat was definitely a highlight, a charming UNESCO-listed town known as the “City of a Thousand Windows” with its hillside Ottoman houses, cobblestone streets and beautiful views.

Albania is a destination that is still developing its tourism offering which made experiencing it firsthand especially valuable for our advisors.

Montenegro is a fascinating destination that is already gaining strong popularity among North American travellers. New areas and experiences continue to emerge and our multi-country Balkan FAM took us through some of the country’s most beautiful places including Kotor, Budva and Perast.

We explored the Bay of Kotor by boat and visited Our Lady of the Rocks. This tiny man-made island with its beautiful church was followed by a walk through charming Perast which was a pleasant surprise. Small and elegant with an incredible atmosphere. We also enjoyed evening walks through charming Budva and historic Kotor.

One of the absolute highlights was our overnight stay at Mamula Island Hotel. Set on its own tiny island at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor this beautifully restored 19th-century fortress has been transformed into a very special luxury retreat. The history and contemporary design together with the privacy and incredible surroundings make Mamula much more than simply a hotel. It is an experience and a destination in itself.

Our multi-country Balkan FAM continued to Serbia 🇷🇸, with Turkish Airlines taking us to Belgrade, a new destination for many of our advisors with a few wonderful days in Belgrade.

Our home was the beautiful The Bristol Belgrade, one of the city’s historic landmarks, originally opened in 1912 and recently brought back to life after an extensive restoration. The hotel beautifully combines its heritage with modern luxury, but what impressed us most was the unbeatable service. This is one of those rare hotels where you feel like every wish can come true.

Our advisors also explored Belgrade and visited the magnificent Church of Saint Sava, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks.

The Bristol made a lasting impression and is definitely a property we would confidently recommend to even the most discerning clients.

Rixos Tersane Istanbul was home to our agents during our recent FAM stop in Istanbul and what a property! Set directly on the Golden Horn within the historic 600-year-old shipyard district Rixos Tersane combines the feel of an urban resort with a great waterfront location, beautiful views, restaurants, pool and plenty of lifestyle experiences. It really feels like a destination within the city.

Our agents also had a chance to inspect Aliée Istanbul, another outstanding property within Tersane Istanbul, but with a completely different feel. Much more intimate and exclusive with just around 100 rooms and suites, Aliée focuses on highly personalized service, wellness, art and gastronomy, all surrounded by the history of the Golden Horn. Two very different concepts, both showcasing just how exciting Istanbul’s luxury hospitality scene has become.
