Superior Department Store

🎯 Located where the Duck's Unlimited building now stands on 1st Street NE.
🫡 Opened in 1946 by Wilf Vellacott, an RCAF veteran, it was the centre for dry goods, groceries and also had a lunch counter.
🚌Served Wadena and area as its STC bus depot for 40 years! until it was moved in 1999.
🥅 Incidentally, Wilf was also goal keeper for Fishing Lake Hockey League ( Wadena Wildcats Senior Hockey ) for over 30 years, plus supplied Fishing Lake Bible Camp for the same amount of time.

Singer Sewing Machine c Early 1900s

✍️ First patent issued in 1851 for Singer Sewing Machine by Isaac Singer.
💤 Introduced the first electric sewing machine in 1889 and the Slant-o-matic in 1952 with a zigzag stitch.
💰 It ceased making sewing machines during World War II to make mu*****ns and 1911A1 pistols, among other things. Due to its rarity, one pistol sold in 2017 for $414,000US.

FUN FACT

Ⓜ️ The Wadena and District Museum is the largest museum site in Saskatchewan for the town’s population.
🏦 It holds agriculture, blacksmithing, household, school, transportation, and gospel artefacts all on the same site.
⏳ It has buildings dating back to 1897, 1904, 1907, 1916 and 1955 plus original 1914 buildings on their original site.

REO Speed Wagon

🛻 REO stands for the initials of its founder, Ransom Eli Olds of Michigan, who founded the company in 1915 after leaving Oldsmobile.
💪 The L-110 series 'light duty" truck was an entirely separate line built by International Harvester from 1950-52 with a 220-cu-in Silver Diamond 90hp inline six engine.
🎸 Incidentally, REO Speedwagon, the rock band, took its name from the former's 1915 REO truck model.
