The Good:
We are OPEN for the season with kayak, SUP, and pedalboat rentals this weekend, Saturday May 24. The weather is looking amazing!
------
The Bad:
Parks Canada is not allowing us to provide Martese Cruises and motorboat rentals. Unexpectedly and contrary to previous statements, they have decided to extend their ban on motorized watercraft for summer 2025.
It is crucial to note that the Clear Lake Marina’s watercraft do not pose any Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) risk to Clear Lake. Our rental and cruise services actively contribute to mitigating the exposure of Clear Lake to AIS, enhancing the visitor experience without compromising the ecological balance.

The Ugly:
On many occasions during the winter, Riding Mountain National Park told us that we could plan to operate Martese Cruises and pontoon rental services in the upcoming 2025 summer. Then, on Friday May 16, right before we opened, they told us that we can no longer provide these services. Now, facing a second summer of closure after they also shut us down in 2024, our once reputable and thriving business will never be the same.
We had almost thirty staff hired for 2025, mostly teens and young adults. Some of them are integral to the past few years of this business and what we hoped would be a bright future. It is upsetting to break our employment commitments to them just days before they should have started working. Parks Canada: this is embarrassing and disgraceful. Local businesses, you will have some applicants who should have been working on the Martese and at the Marina this summer. Each one of them is amazing, so hire them as quickly as you can.

Why did this happen?
Unfortunately, we do not know. If you are like us, and you’d like to find out, please check out our Local Member of Parliament, Dan Maziers page and posts. We’ll share one of them below. He is demanding answers for how Parks Canada could make and announce such an impactful decision in such a rash and misleading way. He is requesting a public meeting with Parks Canada’s management team in hopes that they can provide some answers.
Parks Canada must strive for better. Their recent displays in Riding Mountain National Park lack basic principles of respect, integrity, and good faith. It is simply inexcusable.
