A Day in the Life of an Old Order Mennonite

The Old Order Mennonites are one of the most recognizable groups within the Mennonite community, known for their traditional lifestyle and distinctive attire. Their day typically begins before dawn, starting with morning chores such as milking cows and preparing breakfast using fresh, homegrown ingredients. These early hours are characterized by prayer and reflection, which help set a spiritual foundation for the day. For more information about Mennonite life, visit us at the Mennonite Story.

Did you know that Old Order Mennonite
Churches are called meeting houses?
Mennonite meetinghouses are where the community gathers for worship. These structures are simple yet elegant, typically featuring plain exteriors, large windows that provide natural light, and open interiors designed for communal gatherings. The absence of elaborate decorations reflects the Mennonite emphasis on humility and spiritual devotion.
While in the area, don't miss out on the offerings at The Mennonite Story. We are here, and happy to meet you!
