Today we travelled from the quaint community of Flowers Cove to St. Anthony for the start of the Iceberg Festival—and the icebergs certainly did not disappoint! 🧊💙
Did you know that many of the icebergs we see along Newfoundland’s coast began their journey on the glaciers of western Greenland? They drift south through Baffin Bay and along the Labrador Current, travelling nearly 3,300 kilometres (1,800 nautical miles) over an average of 2 to 3 years before reaching Newfoundland and Labrador. (Canada)
After taking in some incredible iceberg views, we continued north to the historic Norse settlement at L’Anse aux Meadows, where Vikings established the first known European settlement in North America over 1,000 years ago.
We didn’t have time to explore every corner of the site because we had an important date back at our accommodations—a fresh Newfoundland lobster feast! 🦞❤️
The Viking Trail continues to amaze us with its rugged beauty, fascinating history, and unforgettable scenery.
