🌧️ Yesterday we made the journey from Flowers Cove to Rocky Harbour. It was a very soggy travel day, with the area under a special weather statement due to heavy rainfall. But a little rain wasn’t going to stop us from exploring!

We took time to visit Arches Provincial Park, where the impressive natural sea arches are a must-see stop along the Viking Trail.

Today, we’re looking forward to seeing some sunshine and hitting the trails in Gros Morne National Park. With dramatic fjords, towering cliffs, and some of the most spectacular landscapes in Canada, we can’t wait to see what adventures await.

Yesterday we traded the coastline for the trails and spent the day exploring the beautiful Roddickton-Bide Arm area. Did you know Roddickton-Bide Arm is known as the “Moose Capital of the World” and is said to have one of the highest moose densities in North America? 🫎

One of the highlights of the day was hiking to the Underground Salmon Pool, where Atlantic salmon disappear into an underground cave system before reappearing farther upstream. An incredible natural wonder and well worth the walk!

We wrapped up the day exploring the ancient thrombolites in Flowers Cove, which has been our home base for the last three days. These rare living rock formations are among the oldest visible evidence of life on Earth.

And Newfoundland weather? It kept us on our toes. We started the day in T-shirts and ended it bundled up in layers. 🌞➡️🧥

Every day on the Great Northern Peninsula brings a new adventure, and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. ❤️

Today we say goodbye to Flowers Cove and continue our journey south. Next stop: Gros Morne National Park! We can’t wait to see what adventures await in one of Canada’s most spectacular landscapes.

Today we travelled from the quaint community of Flowers Cove to St. Anthony for the start of the Iceberg Festival—and the icebergs certainly did not disappoint! 🧊💙

Did you know that many of the icebergs we see along Newfoundland’s coast began their journey on the glaciers of western Greenland? They drift south through Baffin Bay and along the Labrador Current, travelling nearly 3,300 kilometres (1,800 nautical miles) over an average of 2 to 3 years before reaching Newfoundland and Labrador. (Canada⁠)

After taking in some incredible iceberg views, we continued north to the historic Norse settlement at L’Anse aux Meadows, where Vikings established the first known European settlement in North America over 1,000 years ago.

We didn’t have time to explore every corner of the site because we had an important date back at our accommodations—a fresh Newfoundland lobster feast! 🦞❤️

The Viking Trail continues to amaze us with its rugged beauty, fascinating history, and unforgettable scenery.
