Kitsilano Beach, known as "Kits" Beach, is located on Cornwall Ave at the north end of Yew St.

The Seawall runs along side the beach and Kitsilano Pool is at the west side.

Kitsilano takes its name after a Squamish First Nation chief, whose people were displaced by the local government in 1901. ... Proximity to the downtown, stunning Kitsilano and Jericho beaches, housing developments and city infrastructure development made 'Kits' a desirable destination and home within the city's limits.

Chief Kitsilano’s name was actually Khatsahlano. He lived at Senakw or Snauq, a Squamish village at the head of False Creek. In 1869 the colonial B.C. government set aside 37 acres of land around the village as a reserve, and in 1877 it was expanded to 80 acres.

When the City of Vancouver was incorporated in 1886, what had been land in the middle of nowhere was suddenly in the middle of the fledgling city. So white Vancouverites tried to get it back.

On May 15, 1901 the Vancouver World reported the city had requested “the removal of the Indians from the reservation on the south side of the mouth of False Creek, just around from Greer’s Beach.
