An overlapping series of nationwide aviation strikes is scheduled in Italy on Sunday, July 5, 2026. Expect severe flight delays, gate backups, and potential cancellations as ground handling staff, EasyJet cabin crew/pilots, Rome security screeners, and Milan air traffic controllers stage coordinated 4- to 24-hour walkouts.
Breakdown of the July 5 Strike Actions
Nationwide: EasyJet pilots and cabin crew are staging a 24-hour strike, severely disrupting flights operated by the airline .
National: Ground-handling workers (including those responsible for baggage and refueling) are staging a 24-hour national walkout called by Cub Trasporti.
Milan Malpensa (MXP): ENAV air traffic controllers are staging both a 24-hour strike and an overlapping 4-hour strike (13:00 to 17:00), which may also cause airspace delays across northern Italy.
Rome Fiumicino (FCO) & Ciampino (CIA): ADR Security staff are striking for 8 hours (10:00 to 18:00), which will likely result in longer lines at passenger screening areas.
Catania (CTA): ASC Handling staff are staging a 4-hour walkout from 14:00 to 18:00.
Upcoming July Strikes
Beyond July 5, further aviation disruptions are planned later in the month. Notably, a 24-hour strike at Milan Malpensa Airport is scheduled by ground handling staff (Alha and MLE-Bcube) on July 21, 2026.
Later in the month, a nationwide rail and local public transport strike is also slated for July 23 and 24.
