Dear King Edward Parents/Guardians,

Our hope is that everyone is doing well, staying safe and enjoying the beautiful weather. Last week, the King Edward Staff spent some time gathering and organizing our students’ belongings from their desks and lockers. Special thanks to the Staff who volunteered and for kindly taking the time to collect and organize our students’ belongings.

Beginning on Thursday, June 24th and Friday, June 25th we will be inviting parents to come to the school to pick up your child/children’s belongings. You will receive a reminder telephone message, providing the day and time frame that you will be able to come to the school to retrieve your child/ren’s belongings. Listed below is the schedule that we hope to follow for distribution this week.

• Thursday, June 24th from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. for families with surnames beginning with the letters A through K.

• Friday, June 25th from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. for families with surnames beginning with the letters L though Z.

On the days listed above, we will facilitate a curbside pickup at the front entrance on Chilver Road.

Parents, our hope is that when you come to the school to retrieve your children’s items that you please take the time to return any Library books and textbooks that may be at your home. Please have your children locate the Library books and textbooks prior to coming to the school to retrieve your children’s items. We will not be collecting the Board technology at this time.

In order to facilitate the distribution of our students’ belongings safely, smoothly and following the rules of social distancing and we ask that you wear a mask when you come to the school, we would like to suggest the following procedures:

1. Please pull up to the front of the school and we will place your child’s belongings on a table for you to retrieve.
2. We will have a table set up for the Library books and textbooks that are returned to the school.

Our hope is that you will make every effort to come to the school on the day and time assigned to retrieve your child’s belongings. Thank you parents, for your continued support and kindness as we ensure that all of our students’ items are returned in a safe and organized manner. We appreciate everything that you do to support our students and staff.

Please feel free to contact the school if you have any questions regarding this plan for distribution of our students’ belongings.
Have a wonderful evening.

Sincerely,

Teresa Iandolo Paul Campeau

Good afternoon, King Edward Parents and Guardians,

I hope that everyone is doing well and enjoying the lovely weather that we have been having over the past couple of weeks. With summer just around the corner it is hard to believe that the school year is quickly coming to an end. The last day of online classes for the students will be Monday, June 28th. We are so proud of our students and staff for the commitment that they have put forth throughout this period of Virtual Learning.

With the students taking part in Remote learning since after the April break, we realize that many students may have personal belongings at the school in their desk and/or locker. Later this week, with the support of our Staff, we will be packing our students’ belongings. Parents will have an opportunity to come to the school on Thursday, June 24th and Friday, June 25th to retrieve your child’s belongings. We are working on a schedule that we will share with our school community prior to the scheduled pick up dates. During the pick-up days we ask that you please return any Library books, textbooks and school items that your child presently has at home. Board provided technology will not have to be returned at this time.

A reminder that the King Edward Grade 8 Virtual Graduation Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 22nd at 6:00 p.m. We are so excited to celebrate our Graduating Class of 2021 and all of the hard work they have put into making this a successful year. The virtual ceremony will recognize all of our Grade 8 students and includes the students who participated in, in-person learning and students who were part of the GEC Virtual School.

On Wednesday, June 23rd, our Graduating students and their parents will have an opportunity to return to the school to take pictures outside and to pick up their Graduation Certificate and gift bag. Special thanks to the Graduation Committee for organizing the Virtual Graduation and the Graduate Photo/Pick-up Day. More information and a schedule will be shared regarding the Graduate Photo/Pick-up Day for the returning Graduates and their parents.

We want to let you know that your child’s Term 2 Report Card and Individual Education Plans will be mailed to your home at the end of June.

Thank you parents, for your continued support, care, kindness and partnership that you provide to our students and staff with the online learning. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Please continue to stay well and stay safe.

Wishing you a good evening and a wonderful week.

Teresa Iandolo Paul Campeau

Good morning King Edward Parents and Guardians.

Our hope is that everyone continues to be safe and healthy. We are so pleased that the weather has been very warm these past few days, making it feel more like summer has arrived.

Recently, it was announced that schools will not be reopening at this time and that remote learning will continue throughout the month of June. I know that the King Edward staff and I were all hoping for a different outcome. Nevertheless, there are 3 weeks of school and we intend to make the best out of them. The King Edward Staff continue to focus on providing meaningful and effective learning opportunities for our students. Our staff are so incredibly proud of our students for their perseverance and for the dedication that they put forward daily as they engage in online learning. Mr. Campeau and I are extremely grateful and proud of our school community for the ongoing support and kindness that you share with us.

We are presently making plans to celebrate our Grade 8 students by producing a Virtual Graduation Celebration. We are excited to honour our students, the King Edward class of 2021, and to offer our support as they prepare for a new chapter of their educational career. The Graduation Ceremony will go live on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. Stay tuned as the link to the ceremony will be shared on Edsby and on our school website the day of the Graduation.

Important Dates to remember:

o Friday, June 11- PD Day (No School for Students)
o Tuesday, June 22- Grade 8 Graduation
o Wednesday, June 23 – Graduates return to King Edward School (more information to follow).
o Monday, June 28- Last Day of School for Students (More information regarding report cards still to come)

Thank you parents, for your continued support, care, kindness and partnership that you provide to our students and staff with the online learning. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Please continue to stay well and stay safe.

Sincerely,

Teresa Iandolo Paul Campeau

A vaccine is now available for youth 12 and up!

Dear Parents and/or Guardians:

Vaccines are safe, effective and are the best way to protect your child, your family, and your community from COVID-19. Vaccines will help students and families to safely resume normal activities as soon as possible.

Health Canada has authorized the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for youth aged 12 and up. Ontarians aged 12 to 17 are now able to book an appointment for a free first dose of the vaccine. There will also be special “youth and families clinics” happening throughout the weeks of June 14 and 21. Depending on where you live, some clinics will offer appointments and others may be drop-in clinics.

Most children with COVID-19 have mild symptoms or none at all. However, some children with COVID-19 can get very sick. Children can also spread COVID-19 to other people. Vaccinating children protects them from getting sick and reduces virus spread within their household and the community.

To help your child and your family to make an informed decision, the Government of Ontario has developed a fact sheet (emailed to you) based on expert medical advice and scientific information. It covers several key areas including:

• Safety of the vaccine for youth
• Why vaccination is important
• Effectiveness of the vaccine for youth

As well, we have dedicated webpage that outlines how to book and prepare for your child’s vaccination appointment: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/covid-19-vaccines-youth

The site provides information about the province’s current plan for youth vaccinations, answers key questions around safety and effectiveness, and provides links to external sites for more information. You and your child are also encouraged to talk to your health care provider or Windsor Essex County Health Unit if you have questions about the vaccine.

Supporting your child to be vaccinated against COVID-19 is an important step in the fight against this disease. It will be a key factor in helping our school community return to a sense of normalcy and will benefit overall physical and mental health for children, youth and their families.

Sincerely,

Teresa Iandolo Paul Campeau

Dear Parents & Guardians,

We are excited to let our community know that King Edward has been selected as a pilot school for an active school travel grant in Windsor-Essex County! The work through the grant will focus on making our school zone safer and promoting safe physical activity for our students so they can walk and wheel to school.

To get started, we are looking for your help – we want to hear about your family’s school travel practices (when attending school in-person). Please take a few minutes to complete the survey through the link below to help get us started. The survey will remain open until Friday, May 28th 2021.

To thank you for your time, after completing the survey, you have the choice to enter your name into a prize draw. Two (2) lucky people will each win a $25 gift card for President’s Choice.

Thank you for your support and information – we can’t wait to see this work unfold at our school!
