You haven’t experienced summer in the prairies until you’ve Whooped and Hollared.

The 11th Annual Whoop & Hollar Folk Festival, August 23 to 24, 2025, is a one-of-a-kind celebration of music, art, nature and community - set in the heart of Manitoba’s agri-cultural soul. Think bonfires, barefoot dancing, food trucks, local artisans and that “found-your-people” kind of magic.

Join folk legend Valdy alongside a vibrant lineup of grassroots musicians and makers, from Kelly Bado to The Janzen Boys, and even a High Gravity Stew Brew Fusion Workshop (yes, that’s a thing!).

📍 Cottonwood Acres (Saturday) & Island Park in Portage la Prairie (Sunday = FREE!)

Tucked into the heart of Winnipeg’s historic Exchange District, Peasant Cookery is where rustic charm meets locally crafted cuisine. From the moment you walk into this cozy corner spot, you’re greeted with the warm buzz of conversation, the smell of something delicious in the air and a menu full of thoughtfully prepared favourites.

🥩 For Starters
Start your meal right with their stunning Carpaccio de Boeuf. This delicate, lightly smoked beef is sliced paper-thin, topped with maple mustard, parmesan, aioli and crispy shallots. Served with golden crostini, it’s the kind of appetizer that makes you slow down and appreciate every bite. Pair it with a fresh watermelon salad, tossed with toasted cashews, crumbled feta cheese, mint and cubed watermelon.

🦆 Savour the Spotlight
The Duck à l’Orange Tarte strikes a beautiful balance of sweet and savoury, with house-made duck prosciutto, seared pears, crème fraîche and a bright orange-white wine gastrique on a golden crust. The Lemon Pickerel Bacon Sandwich reimagines a Manitoba classic with cornmeal-breaded pickerel, crispy bacon, lemon aioli and all the fixings on a soft brioche bun. Both dishes showcase Peasant Cookery’s passion for fresh, locally sourced ingredients and handcrafted comfort food served in a warm, welcoming space.

🍷 Sip and Savour
Standout sips include the White Lie, an alcohol-free option. It’s a refreshing mix of Lumette London Dry, honey, lemon and cucumber, making it fresh and full of zest. Also enjoy the Pretty Jane, made with local Patent 5 Purple Blossom Gin, Amaro Montenegro, blueberry, lemon and a splash of rose prosecco. It’s a beautiful cocktail that tastes like summer in a glass.

🍫 Save Room for Dessert
Finish your meal on a sweet note with the Chocolate Ganache Tart; velvety and rich, layered with dulce de leche, berry coulis and a generous swirl of whipped cream. Or try the Gluten-Free Lemon Pudding; a light, bright and refreshing finish with mascarpone mousse and fresh berries. It’s the perfect summer treat.

📍 Local Love
Located at 283 Bannatyne Avenue in the beautifully restored Traveller’s Building, Peasant Cookery is a neighbourhood favourite with a timeless feel. Patio season? They’ve got you covered there too.

So whether you're out with friends, planning a date night or showing off Winnipeg to a visiting guest - this spot always delivers.
