You don’t even have to leave the lodge to catch a giant! 🎣

Check out the incredible gold-coloured lake trout caught right from the dock at Aylmer Lake Lodge!

Big lake trout are one thing… but seeing one with colours like this makes the moment even more special.

When the fishing is this good right off the dock, you know you’re somewhere extraordinary.

GIANTS OF THE NORTH

Sometimes the barrenlands give you a moment you’ll never forget.

This barren-ground grizzly appeared along the shoreline at Aylmer Lake, moving across the rocks before suddenly standing tall to get a better look at us.

For a few seconds, we just watched each other.

No roads. No crowds. No fences. Just a wild grizzly in one of the most remote places in Canada.

These are the moments that remind you just how wild the Northwest Territories still is—and why experiencing the barrenlands in person is so special.

Most people will never see a barren-ground grizzly like this.

Some of the best memories at the lake have nothing to do with fishing or wildlife.

Having my grandchildren help direct a floatplane into the dock at Aylmer Lake is one of those moments I’ll always remember.

A few hand signals, a lot of excitement, and a floatplane taxiing toward the dock—it doesn’t get much better than sharing northern adventures like this with the next generation.

These are the memories that last a lifetime. ❤️✈️

Look out the window…

You just might see some caribou wandering past.

Just another evening at Aylmer Lake Lodge, where the barrenlands are our backyard and you never know what might walk by.

My Happy Place! 🇨🇦

Muskox and caribou roaming the barrenlands—animals that may have never seen a human before.

Barren-ground grizzlies. Arctic wolves. Wolverines. Endless tundra, crystal-clear lakes and true Canadian wilderness stretching as far as you can see.

No roads. No crowds. Just wildlife and some of the most untouched country left on Earth.

It’s all here with Canadian Wildlife Adventures at Aylmer Lake Lodge in Canada’s Northwest Territories.

This is more than a destination. This is my happy place.

Pretty cool to see this!

That’s me fishing under the northern lights in Canada’s Northwest Territories, and the photograph was selected as the cover photo for the August 2026 edition of the Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce’s Chamber Connection.

There are some nights in the North you simply never forget. You can spend the day fishing incredible northern waters and then look up at night to see the sky come alive with the aurora.

This is what we get to share with our guests at Canadian Wildlife Adventures and Aylmer Lake Lodge — world-class fishing, incredible wildlife and some of the most spectacular wilderness Canada has to offer.

A big thank you to the Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce for featuring the photo on the cover!

Fishing under the northern lights… it doesn’t get much more Canadian than that. 🇨🇦🎣

This is exciting news for us.

Lac de Gras is one of the incredible lakes where Canadian Wildlife Adventures operates, and we’ve watched this landscape evolve over the years.

With Diavik now filling the A21, A418, and A154 mine pits as part of its closure plan, we’re looking ahead with optimism. Once these deep pits are safely reconnected to Lac de Gras, they could become exceptional habitat for lake trout, lake whitefish, and burbot.

Deep, cold water is exactly what trophy lake trout thrive in, and while only time will tell how these areas develop, the future of the fishery is something we’re very excited to watch.

It’s encouraging to see a major reclamation project moving forward while creating the opportunity for nature to reclaim and enhance this remarkable northern ecosystem.

The North has always been resilient. We can’t wait to see what the next decade brings to one of Canada’s truly world-class fisheries.

Some of the greatest blessings in life can’t be bought—they’re experienced.

A sunrise over a quiet lake.
The call of a loon.
A caribou crossing the tundra.
Time spent with family and friends in the wilderness.

No matter where today takes you, take a moment to appreciate the beauty around you.

Have a great and blessed day.

Float planes aren’t just transportation in Canada’s North—they’re the beginning of the adventure.

Your journey starts in Yellowknife as you lift off over endless boreal forest. Soon the trees disappear, giving way to the vast Arctic barrenlands, where countless lakes, winding rivers, and untouched wilderness stretch to the horizon.

After an unforgettable flight, your float plane touches down on the crystal-clear waters of Aylmer Lake, taxiing right to the dock in front of Canadian Wildlife Adventures’ Aylmer Lake Lodge.

No roads. No crowds. Just true wilderness.

For many of our guests, the float plane flight is every bit as memorable as the fishing, wildlife, and landscapes that follow.

Welcome to one of Canada’s last great wilderness destinations. (canadianwildlifeadventures.com)
