Great Slave Lake is the deepest lake in North America at 614 metres (2010 ft) and the second largest lake in the NWT (behind Great Bear Lake). Great Slave stretches 480 km (300 miles) from east to west and up to 240 kilometres (150 miles) wide. Great Slave has an area close to 11,000 square miles and feeds the Mackenzie River which flows north to the Arctic Coast.
