I love this!

I was lucky enough to be at Hustai Reserve in February, and see takhi—Prezawalski’s horses—in the wild, living a natural life. For a horse-crazy kid (and adult!) who wrote to the US Congress in 1969 & 1970 to preserve and protect the wild horses of the USA, this was a dream come true. ❤️

If you’re going out in nature to watch wildlife this weekend, please keep this in mind.

We all love animals, but some people love them to death. They might not mean harm, but “just this once” is one time too many.

Food-conditioned wild animals are never going to live a good long life. Ever.

Please educate well-meaning people if you see them feeding animals, or leaving their trash in a place wildlife can access it. There aren’t enough Rangers to go around. It’s up to each of us to make a difference.

Wildlife panning shots are HARD!

It takes a bit of practice to finesse the pieces together. Slow shutter speed, consistent tracking of the animal’s eye, level panning (that’s not exactly easy when you’re shooting handheld!), and a subject that moves quickly enough for wonderful motion but not so fast that you can’t follow.

You’re never ready when they start running, and if you are ready, they start grazing and go to sleep.

But….once in a while you get lucky. The stars align and the angels sing, and instead of buying a Lotto ticket, you get a shot like this.

It's almost time!!!

The elk rut has started and the Big Horn sheep rut isn't far behind. Watching the guys slam their heads together with more force than Broncos tacklers is something that you should see at least once in your lifetime.

I love this time of year--wildlife, football (GO BRONCOS!), crisp air, waves of color across the landscape. How about you? Do you love fall, too?
