Lake Lucerne region has an incredibly rich story of Swiss lakeside luxury, but the true iconic and nothing less than legendary is Bürgenstock, that dates back to 1873 (and was on news all last week). Here stars like Audrey Hepburn (who got married in a little white chapel), Sean Connery and Charlie Chaplin spent some happy days.
Italian actor Sophia Loren had a chalet on the Burgenstock - now the site of its Persian restaurant.
The resort was re-opened after big investment and now is one of the largest in Europe and ”to-do” list for every experienced traveller.
I was here just after the opening, booked it a lot for my VIP clients and now is so blessed to be here again to celebrate a very special date.
The journey from Lucerne takes the 45 minute catamaran trip across the pristine lake. There you board the resort’s funicular (built in 1888 and refitted in 2002) for the bird’s eye view, fine dining, golf and tennis.
It comprises four main hotel buildings, from the Belle Epoque to the ultra-modern, plus seven restaurants.
No need to tell how fantastic this place is.
But the biggest attraction here is the Alpine Spa. The jewel is the blissfully warm infinity pool, complete with whirlpools and fountains, which you swim out to from the indoor lap pool with a stunning panoramic view of the lake below. The urge to take unlimited selfies is so great that photos are strictly limited to one hour in the late afternoon.
