It’s been 20 years since this trip - perhaps it’s time for a revival?

When the air turns crisp, thoughts immediately turn to AFRICA 🌍

Why? Our family has a tradition of bolting South, right after Christmas, by car, train or plane. Kenya 🇰🇪, Namibia🇳🇦, Algeria🇩🇿, just to name a few.

So the process of making a decent coffee on a weekend morning, taking notes and studying maps (Turkana!) is as peaceful and rewarding as it gets (especially when your kid is busy drawing).

Planning a motorcycle road trip to see an old friend comes with a certain nostalgia risk…

Will it be as easy as it was when I was 20? Is my focus still there? After sleeping on a mat in a tent, how fit will I be to ride the next morning? How will it feel to travel solo again after all these years - and not sharing those moments of beauty with my family?

And the killer question for a parent: How do I balance my need for solo adventure with the risks that come with it?

I’m curious to see how reason will balance nostalgia over the next few days. And I haven’t even touched on the carbon footprint issue yet. Wish me luck!
