⚽🌍 Youth for Peace International Football Tournament 2026 🌍⚽

We are delighted to announce the return of the "Youth for Peace" International Football Tournament, taking place from 19–21 June 2026 in Fátima–Ourém, Portugal.

This inspiring event brings together young athletes from different countries, cultures, and pilgrimage shrines, using sport as a powerful tool to promote friendship, respect, solidarity, and peace.

The Shrines team will proudly include representatives from:

📍 Fátima (Portugal)
📍 Lourdes (France)
📍 Częstochowa (Poland)

🎭 Historical scene re-enacted in Mariazell: Marking the "100th anniversary of the name Via Sacra" 📜✨

For centuries, a rich network of pilgrimage routes has connected Vienna to Mariazell in Styria. However, the Latin name "Via Sacra"—designating the scenic route via Heiligenkreuz, Lilienfeld, and the "three holy mountains"—was first used exactly 100 years ago in 1926 by the Viennese writer and sociologist Ernst Karl Winter. 🚶‍♂️⛰️

His 1926 booklet "Die heilige Straße" (The Holy Road) inspired the "Pilgerverein Via Sacra" (Via Sacra Pilgrims' Association) to organize this beautiful centenary event. 🎉💯

To mark the occasion, members of the Mariazell Theatre Association perfectly recreated an 1833 watercolor painted by court painter Eduard Gurk, who originally documented the pilgrimage stages for Archduke Ferdinand. 🎨🖌️

This newly recreated image of a group of people in front of the Mariazell Basilica is incredibly unique because the main portal is usually kept closed! ⛪🔑 The Mariazell Superiorate kindly opened the historic portal especially for this event. 🙌✨

It was a profound honor to represent the holy heart of Bavaria at this year's „Katholikentag“ in Würzburg! ✨Our Pilgrimage and Tourism offices joined forces at our welcoming exhibition booth to share the deep beauty, history, and spiritual heritage of the Altötting pilgrimage site. 🕯️ We were also incredibly proud to present our cherished „Shrines of Europe“ cooperation to so many wonderful visitors. 🇪🇺🌹The Katholikentag was a truly moving gathering. It was deeply inspiring to witness tens of thousands of Catholics, along with believers of all denominations and religions from Germany, Europe, and across the globe, coming together as one. 🌍🤝 We prayed, engaged in meaningful discussions, and celebrated our shared faith in beautiful harmony. 🙏🎶Thank you to everyone who visited our booth between May 13th and 17th. We carried home hearts full of joy and blessed memories! 🕊️
