FLUX Laboratory

FLUX Laboratory Laboratory for Performative Practices

"The primary inspiration of Flux Laboratory is the movement of the world and of those beings who dare to roam" Nicolas Musin

Flux Laboratory is an artistic incubator based in Geneva and Athens, which aims to encourage innovative collaborative dynamics through experimental and transdisciplinary artistic projects. Its aim is to react with vivacity to the questioning of the world today, be it political, economic or ideological, and to open the dialogue between art and science to the public. Flux Laboratory produces contemporary dance pieces, performance art and cultural events centred around gesture, experimentation, encounter and sharing. Since 2016, Flux Laboratory supports and produces projects in Athens under the auspices of the Swiss Embassy in Greece. The research core of Flux Laboratory's programming in Athens is the body itself. The body is explored as an integral tool of artistic creation, a source of knowledge and experience as well as a dynamic element underlying the concept of social cohesion and community development. Open to all current developments in art, science and technology, the possibilities are endless when it comes to cross-collaborations. That is why Flux Laboratory Athens encourages partnerships with other institutions and individuals who welcome dance as a revealing model for how to think, live and work. In this way, it contributes both to the local Greek entrepreneurial sector and to the cultural dynamics of its community.

Worlds within Worlds
November 2024 - March 2025
National Centre for Scientific Research (NCSR) ‘’Demokritos’’

An educational project developed by the Flux Laboratory and the embodying the core idea of merging distinct “worlds”, the realms of art and science, dance and environmental studies, particle physics, and more.
Primary school students were engaged in a transformative experience that integrated learning, art, and research through a holistic approach. A team of distinguished researchers collaborated with dancers from the Flux School, a sound artist, and a sociologist. Together, this interdisciplinary team guided students through a journey of discovery, using movement, sound, and observation to explore complex scientific concepts.
The program culminated in a celebratory event where each participating school presented a scientific concept through kinetic improvisation.

On the occasion of World Human Rights Day, Flux Laboratory, in collaboration with the Embassy of Switzerland in Greece, presents the performance A Weight I Could Not Bear on Tuesday, December 10, at ΦIAT.

With the research expertise of Anastasio Koukoutas and the choreographic guidance of Markella Manoliadi, 40 dancers from the Flux School participate in a performance that seeks to highlight the importance and defense of the universal, starting from the paradox of food waste and fast fashion.

The creative team of A Weight I Could Not Bear notes, among other things, in their artistic statement: ‘’After all, how can we now talk about the inalienable right to life without taking into account our planet as a necessary condition for life itself, in all of its forms? It is an unbearable weight that we are called upon to handle immediately, all together. ‘’

In partnership with the Embassy of Switzerland in Greece.

Dance Supervision: Markella Manoliadi
