DüDaDo im Nirgendwo – A Three-Year Journey

Three years, countless days on the wall, and one extraordinary piece of limestone high above Grindelwald.

What started as an idea turned into a challenging alpine adventure for Anja and me. Together, we established a new route on the remote north face of the Scheideggwetterhorn, pushing our limits both on and off the wall.

Along the way, life had some surprises in store for us, and our plans changed more than once.

The result: DüDaDo im Nirgendwo (8a+) – a demanding alpine multi-pitch route and a project that means much more to us than just climbing.

Every autumn, the traditional cattle show takes place at the Bärplatz in Grindelwald 📍 Local farmers proudly present their cows, which are then judged by a jury based on various criteria 📝 But in our eyes, they’re all beautiful ✨

3 things you should know about Grindelwald First - Top of Adventure before you set out on this excursion:

1. Don’t forget to visit the First View Platform, which is located a little higher up near the First mountain station ⛰️
2. If you want to ride the First Flyer, Glider, Mountain Carts, or Trottibikes, we recommend arriving early and the tickets are available exclusively on-site at the valley station 🎟
3. The Bachalpsee is an hour’s hike from the mountain station 🌊 If you want to visit it, you’ll need to allow
at least two hours for the hike 🥾

Attention hikers: The Waldspitz mountain inn is still open 🏡
Normally, Waldspitz is accessible by bus in the summer, but the bus season has already ended 🚌 https://bit.ly/EventCalendar26

However, you can also hike to Waldspitz: from Grindelwald (2.5–3 hours), from Grindelwald-First (2.5 hours), or the quickest route from Bort, the midway station of Grindelwald-First (1 hour, but very steep) 🍂

There will be a season end party on October 25 at the mountain inn, so look forward to a lively atmosphere, musical entertainment, and a cozy time as we wrap up the season together 🎻The restaurant will be open until 6 pm 🌳Will you be part of the closing committee? ☀️

Can you hike for 6 hours straight? 🥾
The hike from Schynige Platte to Grindelwald First - Top of Adventure is a popular summer and fall favorite among hikers ☀️
The trip begins with a ride on the nostalgic cogwheel train, setting the tone for the hike 🚋 https://bit.ly/SchynigePlatteFirst

After 6 hours of ridge hiking through varied terrain, past mountain lakes, and with stunning mountain views, we arrive at Grindelwald-First ⛰️ Here, you can take the gondola down, but don’t forget that the last gondola departs at 5 pm 🚡

‼️Please note that the Männdlenen mountain hut and the Berghotel Faulhorn are already closed. However, the cogwheel train and the gondola are both still open until October 25 🍂

On Monday, October 26, the following lifts will already be closed:

🚡Grindelwald-First (until November 27)
🚠 Pfingsteggbahn (until spring 2027)
🚟 Männlichen (until December 12)
🚞 Kleine Scheidegg (until November 6)
🚋 Schynige Platte (until summer 2027)

The Eiger Express and the train to Interlaken Ost are the only ones that will remain open for now ☀️
