A Rome hotel that gets two important things right: design and location.

The First Arte is small, design-led and well placed for exploring central Rome, with Piazza del Popolo, Via del Corso and the Spanish Steps all within walking distance.

Then there’s that rooftop.

Our full Edit is now live.

Would The First Arte make your Rome shortlist?

Would you book this table?

At Aroma, Palazzo Manfredi in Rome, the Colosseum sits directly opposite.

The question is whether the food can compete with the view.

We think it can.

Our full Aroma Edit is on Palates & Miles.

Some hotels are good enough that you start thinking about the return before you’ve even left.

The service, the setting, the food or simply how well everything comes together.

Which hotel would you return to without hesitation?

Lunch at Contessa, The Phoenicia Malta.

Set just outside Valletta’s city gates, Contessa combines a light-filled conservatory setting with Southern Mediterranean food and polished tableside service.

The experience goes beyond the menu. The Phoenicia Malta’s history, the design of the restaurant and the pace of lunch all help make Contessa worth considering, whether you are staying at the hotel or simply looking for somewhere to eat while exploring Valletta.

Our full Edit covers the food, service, atmosphere, value and how to plan a visit.

Waldorf Astoria London - Admiralty Arch is moving closer to opening, with reservations now available for stays from March 2027.

For Palates & Miles, this is one of London’s most significant forthcoming hotel openings. Not simply because of the brand, but because Admiralty Arch is a national landmark being turned into a place to stay, dine and gather.

With 114 rooms, suites and residences, restaurants from Clare Smyth and Daniel Boulud, and a position on The Mall opposite Buckingham Palace, this is a project firmly on our radar.

Our latest Edit follows a practical afternoon route through Zadar’s Old Town.

The route begins around the Roman Forum and St Donatus Church before continuing to St Anastasia’s Cathedral, Široka ulica, Queen Jelena Madijevka Park and Bedemi zadarskih pobuna.

It is designed for those visiting Zadar as part of a wider Croatia itinerary, those spending one night in the city or those wanting a clear way to see the key parts of the Old Town in one afternoon.

One of Venice’s best rooftop aperitivo spots?

Hotel Gabrielli’s rooftop terrace combines panoramic lagoon views with one of the city’s most enjoyable aperitivo settings. Looking across to San Giorgio Maggiore, it’s a place designed for slowing down rather than rushing to the next landmark.

The view is the reason to come.

Few rooftop terraces in Venice offer such an uninterrupted panorama across the Bacino di San Marco. From here you can watch vaporetto traffic, private boats and gondolas passing while the light changes across the lagoon throughout the afternoon and into the evening.

The P&M Verdict

If you’re looking for one rooftop bar in Venice to enjoy an afternoon or early evening aperitivo, Hotel Gabrielli should be high on your list. The combination of attentive service, relaxed atmosphere and one of the city’s finest waterfront views makes it a destination in its own right, whether or not you’re staying at the hotel.
