When salmon in Canada leave the ocean to ascend freshwater rivers during their spawning migration—a phenomenon known as the “salmon run”—they undergo a radical metamorphosis. Driven by reproductive hormones, the males change both in color and physical appearance: red pigments (astaxanthin) are shifted from their muscles to their skin, while their skeletons are altered through the development of a hooked jaw (called a “kype”) and a dorsal hump.

An annoyed s***m whale is chasing a pilot whale, who was harassing her.
Our tour are not passive. We try to learn more about the whales. Year after year are now 15 years we visit Dominica and we have had incredible encounter and every year we learn something new. Leaving the vibrant, tropical-like waters of Vis (Croatia) behind. Taking this stunning cloud of Anthias with me in my mind! 🌊✨
Anthias anthias occurs from 15 to 200 metres in depth. This species is a protogynous hermaphrodite, all individuals hatch as females.
The majority are female throughout their lives and even a large school of these fish will contain only a few males.
