In February 2013, the Austrian Space Forum spent a month in the desert near Erfoud pretending it was Mars.

Analog astronauts in spacesuit simulators. Rovers put through terrain tests. Every message back to mission control held for 10 minutes, to fake the distance to Earth.

They picked this desert because it passes for the real thing.

Morocc'n Roll runs out of the same town for eight days. Real roadbook stages in Rally format if you want to navigate, GPS routes in Raid format if you'd rather just ride. No timed leaderboard, no clock to chase.

No spacesuit either. Your helmet will do.
