Our last day in Israel! How quickly the time goes by…we started out with a stop at Megiddo, ancient ruins of a battle fortress in Armageddon…then we drove to Mt. Carmel where Elijah had his showdown with the prophets of Baal, and also to get a Birds Eye view of the Jezreel valley…beautiful to see! We enjoyed lunch at a Druze restaurant and then finished out the day at the ruins of Caesarea by the Sea, and the aqueducts built by Herod the great.
We have a hotel by the beach in Tel Aviv, and will try to catch a few winks before leaving at 2:00 AM for our 6:00 flight to Vienna, and then to Washington Dulles. Until next time!

This morning found us taking another small hike to the top of Mt. Arbel overlooking the Galilee region. We had our devotional there as well..then we headed to Nazareth Village for a walk through a recreated village of what it might have been like in Jesus’ day. We always have a good time there, with a first century lunch served to us afterward.. after lunch we made a stop at the church of Annunciation and also did a bit of shopping. One more stop on Mt. Precipice on the way back, (it’s believed to have been where they wanted to push Jesus off of the cliff) before we headed back for one more night here in Galilee.

Yesterday we traveled North to Banias Springs and Tel Dan, the early morning walk was refreshing through the cooler shaded areas with a rushing stream to add to the beauty. We were able to take the shorter walk to see Abraham’s Gate, since some of the trails were closed due to a fire. Then we visited Caesarea Philippi which was close by as well. After a late lunch at a beautiful German Catholic Hotel on the shores of Galilee…our guide George gave us some time to shop at a local supermarket and a coffee shop, which was interesting to see and observe the local culture.

Tuesday morning started out with a relaxing boat ride on the Sea of Galilee…then we continued to the Mt. of Beatitudes, lunch at Magdala, with a tour of the village ruins and church there as well. We finished the day at Capernaum and then drove around the east side of the Sea and saw the Decapolis and Gadara region, before returning to our hotel grounds at the southern tip of the lake

On Monday our first stop in Jericho was to view the Mt. of Temptation, and then there were camel rides and some shopping. After that we drove back toward Jerusalem for a stop at our friends at the Bedouin camp. Things have changed quite a bit for them, they are no longer in tents, and some of the men are employed in factories rather than being shepherds. We still enjoyed their hospitality and interacting and singing with the children, and were served some delicious tea. From there we headed back into the Jordan valley, and toward Galilee where we will spend the remainder of the trip. We stopped at Bet She’an to see the ruins of the ancient city. Some of the more adventurous ones took the stairs to the top of the hill overlooking the ruins. The afternoon heat is no joke in Sept! Then we made our way to our hotel for the next four nights on the south shore of the Sea of Galilee.

We left Jerusalem yesterday morning and headed for the Dead Sea area. En Gedi was first on the list, then Masada, and Qumran. The heat was intense…Quite a difference from Jerusalem! After lunch we stopped by the Dead Sea for a floating experience to those who wanted to…and then our last stop was at the baptismal site close to Jericho, where we spent the night.

This morning our schedule included the Garden Tomb, the Israeli Museum and Shrine of the Book. From there we were dropped off by the Garden of Gethsemane, and took a walk down a little path through the Kidron Valley to our Muslim Friend’s home for lunch. They gave us such a warm welcome, and were absolutely delighted to see Mom again too! They have been friends with this family for many years and have brought many groups to their home over the years. After lunch we visited the garden of Gethsemane, Palm Sunday Road, and House of Caiaphas.

Our days have been going by too quickly here in Jerusalem…yesterday’s schedule included Bethany and Lazarus’s tomb, The valley of Elah, with the brook that David probably found his five stones at. Then we spent the rest of the day in Bethlehem, having lunch at our Tour guide’s coffee shop..the Connect Cafe, and then spending some time in the shepherds fields as well as an olive wood carving store. Then after dinner we ventured down to the the Western Wall to see the Shabbat and Rosh Hoshanah activities…no pictures were allowed though!
