The uniqueness of Zermatt. For us we go back each season and the activities are so different each season. Never boring even when we go back this often.

Car-free Zermatt feels almost unreal at first, the air is crisper, the world is quieter, the streets feel calmer. Everything moves on soft-purring e-buses and little e-taxis (and the occasional horse drawn carriages). Lovely, but all surprisingly stealthy, so take extra care at crossings and listen before you step out.

Keep late-night voices low (sound travels in a valley), and when it comes to tipping, rounding up is perfectly appreciated, no big percentages expected.

Out on the trails, give wildlife plenty of space, this valley protects forests and sanctuaries for a reason, and that respectful distance is part of what keeps it wild. 🌿

What is the most magical aspect of Zermatt for you?

Every season in Zermatt brings new activities. Of course you could ski all year too.

Zermatt is not limited to one season, it’s a destination that changes completely throughout the year.

In winter, it becomes one of the top ski resorts in Europe, with access to extensive slopes and even year-round skiing on the glacier.

In summer, the snow melts to reveal hiking trails, alpine lakes, and scenic viewpoints that stretch across the mountains.

Cable cars and mountain railways make it easy to explore higher elevations, offering breathtaking perspectives without needing to climb.

No matter when you visit, the landscape feels dramatic and alive.

My favourite stop. A short ski cabin ride from Cove Zermatt (Casa d’amore) , an even shorter ski down and we are iglu-dorf. A hotel , restaurant in an igloo. And this time sponsored by my favourite beer. . In Zermatt it’s not just waiting for the après-ski. It’s fun all day.

I learn new things about every day.

Stir. It’s ready. ☕🇨🇭

In 1937, Swiss chemist Max Morgenthaler developed the first successful instant coffee at Nestlé in Vevey. By preserving both aroma and taste in a soluble form, he solved a challenge that had limited earlier attempts.

This innovation made coffee easier to store, transport and prepare, opening the way for widespread use beyond traditional brewing methods.

Instant coffee quickly spread across the world, from households to soldiers during World War II, thanks to its simplicity and practicality.

Today, it remains a widely used product, illustrating how a Swiss invention became part of everyday life around the globe.

And not only once, one should return many many times.

When someone says they've never been to Zermatt..... 😵

Great for those who don’t want to hike or ski. I’ve done it with my mum on a wheelchair. !

dZ Tips:
The Gornergrat cog railway has been climbing for over a century, and honestly, half the magic happens before you even reach the top. You settle into your seat and the windows start framing it all for you, glaciers, ridgelines, and that slow, satisfying corkscrew ascent as the village drops away. Then you arrive at a year-round sun deck with front-row views of Dufourspitze, the Gorner Glacier, and that unmistakable pyramid in the distance. Go early for crisp light, or linger for the late glow, it’s mountain theatre, and there’s no bad seat.

Spending a night at Iglu-Dorf feels like stepping into the margins of a winter fairy tale. Your room is carved from snow, softly lit with candles and warm LEDs, and the whole place has that hushed, other-worldly calm. In the communal spaces, fondue turns into slow conversation, everyone wrapped in wool hats and that “we’re really doing this” grin.

Outside, the stars feel closer and the village lights feel far away. Later, you slide into a thermal sleeping bag on a thick mattress and listen to the kind of muffled silence you only get when the world is made of snow. Morning arrives as pale blue light filtering through the entrance tunnel, and the very comforting promise of a hot drink back in the “normal” world.
