The 'cueca' is the national dance of Chile. The cueca is a courtship style of dance which is traditionally performed between a man and a woman. As the pair dance, they twirl handkerchiefs constantly circling, pursuing, retreating and passing each other in a game of elegant flirtation. Described as a courting dance, the cueca depicts courting rituals between a rooster and a hen. Here, on top of cerro 'guacho' in Puerto Guadal, on the 'fiestas patrias', the famous 'Dieciocho', (Chilean Independence Day, 18th of September) the Huaso (Chilean cowboy, usually from the north of chile; in the far south known as Gaucho, like in Argentina) dances the cueca to the chilean flag.

La Ruta de los pioneros:
Esta expedición de aproximadamente siete días, es uno de los viajes más escénicos, aventureros y espirituales que jamás experimentarán.
El nombre de este sendero retrocede en el tiempo, a su historia cautivante. Mucho antes de que la Carretera Austral, que hoy une Cochrane con Villa O’higgins fuera construida, un grupo de personas, principalmente gauchos y locales, se abrieron camino atravesando densos bosques, cruzando pasos de gran altitud, a través de laderas rocosas, caudalosos rios, mallines y glaciares. Esta era la única manera de llegar a Villa O'higgins.
Hoy en día, es un huella para caballos que los gauchos siguen usando para mover su ganado por la zona.
Nosotros podremos disfrutar del sendero original, enclavado en un paisaje espectacular, que nos permitirá experimentar lo que los pioneros vivían cuando se movían por estas tierras.

The Route of the Pioneers:
This expedition of approximately seven days, is one of the most scenic, adventurous and spiritual journeys that you will ever experience.
The name of this trail goes back in time to its captivating history. Way before the Carretera Austral, which now connects Cochrane and Villa O'higgins was built; a group of people, mainly gauchos and locals, made their way meandering through thick forests, crossing high altitude passes, through rocky slopes, ferocious rivers, glaciers and swamps. This was the only way to get to Villa O'higgins.
Nowadays it’s mainly a horse trail, as the gauchos still use it to move cattle around the area.
We can still enjoy the original trail set in one of the most spectacular landscapes, giving us the chance to experience what pioneers lived while traveling along this land.
