Our Responsible Traveller Code is part of the work we have been developing at AysenJourneys to make our commitment to responsible tourism more concrete and transparent. It is grounded in the principles of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, adopted by the World Tourism Organization in 1999 and endorsed by the United Nations in 2001.

For us, responsible travel is not about telling people how they should experience Patagonia. It is about encouraging a relationship with the territory based on respect, awareness and reciprocity.

Patagonia looks like this right now: quiet, snowy and almost completely still.

But in just a little over a month, winter will begin to give way to spring. The days will grow longer, the snow will start to retreat from the valleys and Patagonia will slowly begin to change its colours again.

A new season is approaching, and with it, a different way of experiencing Aysén: long days, changing landscapes, fewer visitors early in the season and that unmistakable feeling of having the road a little more to yourself.

For us, that's what travelling through Patagonia has always been about.

Winter is when Patagonia settles into one of its quietest rhythms.

The roads grow emptier, many lodges close their doors until spring and the pace of the region slows once again. Snow settles across the mountains, wildlife continues its daily routines and the landscape returns to a stillness that feels almost untouched.

It's a season defined by calm, where nature quietly takes centre stage and Patagonia reveals one of its most intimate, remote and untamed faces.

By the time spring arrives, these valleys will once again welcome travellers from around the world. Until then, winter reminds us that this landscape has always belonged to nature first.

Long before synthetic outdoor gear arrived in Patagonia, wool was an essential part of everyday life.

It offered warmth, durability and protection against the cold, but it also became part of the cultural identity of the region. In many rural communities across Aysén, the knowledge of spinning and weaving has been passed from one generation to the next.

Today, those handmade pieces tell a story that goes beyond craftsmanship. They speak about adaptation, resilience and the close relationship between people and the landscapes they inhabit.

Some places invite you to see as much as possible.
Patagonia invites something different.

It asks you to slow down, pay attention and understand that not every viewpoint needs a queue, not every trail needs a photo and not every moment needs to be shared immediately.

Travelling through Aysén isn't about collecting destinations or ticking places off a list. It's about giving yourself enough time to understand a landscape that has existed long before us—and will hopefully remain that way long after we leave.

Perhaps the most meaningful way to experience Patagonia is simply to move through it with curiosity and respect.

Patagonia doesn't stop in winter.

It simply changes its rhythm.

Fresh snow settles across the mountains, the landscape grows quieter and wildlife continues much as it always has. Guanacos keep crossing the valleys, rivers continue carving their way through the land and the wind tells a different story with every passing day.
Every season reveals a different perspective of this place. Winter simply asks us to slow down enough to notice it.

Remote travel isn't about following a rigid itinerary. In places like Aysén, routes are shaped by weather windows, river conditions, navigation schedules and the quiet experience of local guides who know how quickly the landscape can change.

Sometimes that means adjusting a departure time. Sometimes it means stopping for a while and letting the fog clear.

For us, that isn't an inconvenience. It's simply part of understanding how Patagonia works.
