🚩 Welcome to the French Valley, one of the most beautiful valley of Torres del Paine.

💡 There are 2 Lookout in this valley : the Mirador Frances & Mirador Britanico.

🎥 In this video, we do not reach Britanico, it will be for the next one. (So many great views to show 🤯)

➡️ You can reach it from Frances or Cuernos camp if you are hiking the W from East to West, or from Paine Grande if you are hiking the O or the W trek from West to East.

💡In Torres del Paine, there are only a few day hikes, and Base Torres is one of them!

🚎 First, you take the 7 a.m. bus from Puerto Natales.

📋 You get off the bus at Laguna Amarga, which is one of the entrances to Torres del Paine. The guards will scan your entrance ticket. Remember to download it beforehand, because once you arrive in the park, there is no internet.

🚐 From Laguna Amarga, you'll take a small shuttle for 7 km to the “Welcome Center.” This shuttle costs 4,500 Chilean pesos per person and can only be paid in cash. Don’t worry, there’s always room for everyone!

🏔 You finally start hiking!

🥾 There are 20 km in total, and the way up and down follow the same trail. There are 900 m of elevation gain and the ascent is divided into 4 sections:

1️⃣ About 1 km of flat terrain until you cross the Río Ascenso.

2️⃣ Around 1 hour uphill to the “Paso del Viento,” then about 30 minutes of flat or downhill walking to the Chileno camp.

3️⃣Approximately 1 hour of gentle climbing through a forest of native trees.

4️⃣ About 1 hour of steep to very steep ascent. You’ll be walking over large stones, which can be wet and slippery depending on the weather. Pay close attention and stay focused! The climb is long and intense, but stay motivated—the view is absolutely worth it!

🏔 Once you arrive, take your time to enjoy the view! Ideally, bring an extra T-shirt to change into once you get there, as well as warm clothing. Be careful with the wind: watch your footing, keep yourself warm, and make sure your papers and trash don’t blow away.

👍🏼 You go down on the same trail. Remember that the hiker going up get the preference.

💡This post works for any treks, in any part of the world, and not only for Torres del Paine.

➡ When you are going to the nature, for a multi-days hike, there are some basic rules that each hikers, from the less experienced to the most profesional, should respect.

1️⃣ Bring your trash back.
It seems very logical to you but when you will be tired after few days hiking you might be tempted with leaving a part of your trash in the campsites. Please don't, and think about how these campsites have to take all this trash out of the camp...
In your preparation, take all the packaging out and minimize the trash you will carry. And OF COURS, do not leave EVER some trash outside in the nature, even if is is organic trash !! You are a LOT of hikers going on the trail, and imagine if each one us leave them banana's skin on the floor because it is "organic"... NO !! You do not do it in your gardon, do not do it in the nature 🙌🏻🍏🍌

2️⃣ Minimize your impact :
When you are several days in the nature, there are some basics needs that you have that must be done ! But try to minimize your impact on the nature.
For exemple, do NOT use soap or detergent, you will contaminate the water. If you really to use one, then find a biodegradable one and do NOT use it directly in the rivers. Also. do NOT attend to necessities next to a river, put as much space as possible (30 metres minimum).

3️⃣ Respect the Wildlife :
Do NOT feed wild animals EVER !!! Even the birds, they do NOT eat our food, it is a poison to them! And do NOT try to get near the animals, even to take the greatest picture of all time. You DO have to RESPECT them space.

4️⃣ Be considerate of others :
You always meet other hikers during a multi day hike, so be nice and respectfull. Share the important that you have that might help others and help anyone who is in need.
A basic rule is that the hiker going up has the priority, so if you are going down, just step aside and leave them the space to keep hiking.

5️⃣ Leave what you find :
This is very basic rule in multi days hike, to leave the place just as it was when you arrive. For exemple if you move rocks, or anything else, put it all back the way it was.

💡This post works for any treks, in any part of the world, and not only for Torres del Paine.

➡ When you are going to the nature, for a multi-days hike, there are some mandatory steps that each hikers, from the less experienced to the most profesional, have to respect:

1️⃣ Check the weather for the next days before leaving.
You MUST know what's coming for the next days : Wind ? Rain ? Snow ? Very hot temperatures ? You must be prepared and then, make the correct decision according to your experience and gear. If the weather is too bad or too extrem, then you have to be wise enough to cancel your plan.

2️⃣ You MUST have a map of the trail you are going to hike.
The best s to have it in paper and also downloaded on your phone. There are many applications which offer to download offline maps. You need to know where you are going to, if there is elevation gain and also something to refer to in case of getting lost.

3️ You MUST wear and bring good gear, that fits your needs, but also the trail and the weather.
In Patagonia, it is a reality that you can live the 4 seasons in 1 day, so you need to be prepared for rain, snow, and cold all year long. Goretex shoes, pants and jacket are a non negotiable. You have to always have with you your first aid kit that fits your need + all the basics.

4️ You MUST pack well and smart.
You will carry your backpack for several days, so be extremely sure that you are able to carry this weight. In Patagonia, try to put everything into zip block in order to keep it dry whatever what is the weather. Do not put your sleeping bag outside, it could get wet (which would be the worst) or damaged. Try to put the heavy gear on the bottom of the backpack and closed to your back.

5️ You MUST get informed about the trail your are going to hike.
You can not wait after others persons to help you while you are hiking. You must know about the km, the evelation gain, the campsites you are going to.. You need to know if there is water along the path, if there is any technical difficulties... etc. The most important is to be prepared in case of an accident : Is there a rescue service? If something happen, what do I have to do?
