Torres del Paine literally means the blue towers. Paine is a local indigenous word which simply means blue. The picture today of the towers has a platinum glare on it, it really all depends on the reflection of light. At a certain distance it will appear actually as blue, especially around the vista from prairie area where the native used to roam an hunt the guanacos.
