Travel & Learn | The Legend of Niulang and Zhinu — China's Most Romantic Tale
A: Behind the Qixi Festival lies a love story that has touched Chinese hearts for over two thousand years — the tale of Niulang (牛郎) , a humble cowherd, and Zhinu (织女) , a heavenly weaver girl. Their love defied the boundaries between earth and sky.

✨ Stories behind the stars
Look up at the night sky on Qixi, and you can still see them:
Altair (牛郎星) — the bright star on one side of the Milky Way, representing Niulang, with two smaller stars beside him — his children
Vega (织女星) — the bright star on the other side, representing Zhinu
The Milky Way between them is the river that separates them, and the magpies are still there — flying up every year to build their bridge of love.

💕What the legend teaches us
1. This ancient tale speaks to something timeless:
2. Love knows no bounds — not heaven and earth, not stars and rivers
3. True love endures — through distance, through time, through hardship
4. The magpies' bridge reminds us that love is never alone; it gathers others along the way

Travel & Learn | What is the Qixi Festival?
A: The Qixi Festival (七夕节), also known as the Double Seventh Festival, is one of China's most romantic traditional holidays. It falls on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month — this year, that's August 19, 2026.

💕 A festival of love and longing
The Qixi Festival is best known for the beloved tale of Niulang and Zhinu (牛郎织女) — a cowherd and a weaver girl who fell in love, were separated by the Milky Way, and are allowed to meet just once a year on this very night, crossing the stars on a bridge of magpies.

🧵 More than just a "Chinese Valentine's Day"
But Qixi is about more than romance. Its original name was "Qiqiao Festival" (乞巧节) — the "Festival of Pleading for Skills." In ancient times, young women would pray to Zhinu for needlework skills, intelligence, and a happy marriage. They would compete in threading needles by moonlight, make offerings of fruit and flowers, and wish for a bright future.

🌸 Rich traditions worth knowing:
-Threading needles under the moonlight to test skills and fortune
-Making offerings of fruit, tea, and flowers to Zhinu
-Writing wishes on paper and hanging them on trees
-Eating "Qiaoguo" (巧果) — traditional sweet pastries made for this day

✨ From ancient traditions to modern romance
Today, the Qixi Festival has evolved into China's "Valentine's Day" — a day of romantic dinners, thoughtful gifts, and sweet celebrations. But at its heart, it still carries the ancient values of love, devotion, and the quiet hope that true hearts will always find a way to meet.

In the coming days, we'll explore more about this beautiful festival — from the legend of Niulang and Zhinu to the traditions of Qiqiao and how Qixi is celebrated in modern China.

Travel & Learn | What is Liqiu, the "Beginning of Autumn"?
A: Today, August 7, 2026, marks Liqiu (立秋) , the 13th of the 24 solar terms — and the official beginning of autumn. Its name is beautifully simple: "Li" means "begin," and "Qiu" means "autumn." On this day, summer's peak begins to fade, and nature quietly turns toward cooler days and golden light.

But Liqiu is more than a calendar date — it's a gentle shift in the air itself.

Liqiu tells us: change arrives not with a bang, but with a whisper.

Customs worth knowing:
"Biting Autumn" (咬秋): Families gather to eat seasonal fruits like peaches and melons, believing they protect against digestive troubles as the weather cools.
Offering the harvest (晒秋): In rural villages, farmers dry colorful crops — chili peppers, corn, and beans — on rooftops and balconies, creating a stunning patchwork of autumn abundance.

And a quiet reminder:
Liqiu brings a Chinese saying to mind:
"One leaf falls, and the whole world knows autumn."

Change doesn't always announce itself loudly. Sometimes it's a cooler breeze, a softer light, or a single leaf drifting to the ground. Liqiu reminds us to pay attention — to notice the small shifts, and to trust that nature knows exactly when it's time to let go and move forward.

A gentle lesson from Liqiu:
Summer's energy was loud, bright, and full of growth. Autumn invites us to slow down, reflect, and gather what we've sown. It's a season of harvest — not just in the fields, but in our own lives.

What are you "harvesting" this season? A goal achieved? A lesson learned? Share with us below. 🍁
