Lost Road Real travel is when you take to the open road and you accept everything that come your way to be extremely joyful, difficult or depressing.

This is what the original explorers did. This sense of wonder is crucial and this is what we want to offer

Look up, and you will see the roofs of China.

They are not just tiles and wood, not just curves and eaves. They are the breath of this land, holding centuries of presence, quiet and unshakable.

From the golden imperial roofs of Beijing, standing guard over history, to the weathered grey tiles of mountain villages, watching over generations of families. From the gilded peaks of Tibetan monasteries, reaching toward the sky, to the curved, gentle eaves of Sichuan courtyards, wrapping around moments of peace. From the desert pavilions of Gansu, standing firm against the wind, to the red-lanterned courtyards of old towns, glowing with the warmth of daily life.

Each roof is a teacher. It reminds us that beauty is not in uniformity, but in diversity: in different colors, different crafts, different stories, all rooted in the same earth. The scenery around them changes, cities grow, mountains bloom, deserts shift, but the roofs remain, steady, patient, present.

They do not rush. They do not chase. They simply are.

At Lost Road, we walk beneath these roofs with you, not as tourists, but as guests. We pause, we breathe, we listen to the stories they hold. We invite you to be fully present, to feel the weight of history, the warmth of community, the quiet magic of being exactly where you are.

These roofs are not just backdrops. They are home. And in their stillness, we find our own.

At dawn an old man watched a boy on the shore pick up stranded starfish and toss them back into the surf. “There are too many,” the man said. The boy threw another into the waves and replied, “It made a difference to that one.”

The starfish story is one of the reasons we founded Lost Road — to do things differently, one small, honest act at a time.

Last month we ran a short, confidential sustainability survey with our agency partners and service suppliers across China, using the 4Cs of The Long Run (Conservation, Community, Culture, Commerce). This was not an audit or box‑ticking. It was a relationship check‑in: a way to understand, honestly, where we stand so we can decide what to do next — together.

Why we did it

• Because tourism is coming back, and with it a choice: repeat old habits or learn to travel so places and people thrive.
• Because we don’t yet see a strong, collective movement across the country — mainly good individual efforts, but not enough joined up action.
• Because small, repeatable acts add up, and we can’t create meaningful change alone: we need a community to be stronger together.

The responses were honest and generous. They made one thing clear: there is much to do, and many partners want to improve. That was enough for us to start.

We have opened a voluntary, open community chat — no leaders, no pressure — a place to exchange ideas, inspire each other and pilot small practical actions. We will keep it simple, honest and measurable. No greenwashing. No grand promises. Just starfish acts that matter.

We might be the first community of this kind in China — maybe we are, maybe we aren’t. What matters is trying. We know we will get things wrong sometimes, and we may fail. This is an experiment and an invitation: it could look different, and we welcome other ways of doing it.

It’s been a long road to get here — years of learning, discovery, study, practice, and a lot of reading. Today I’m sharing something personal: a new project from Lost Road called Lost Road Mindful Journey. https://lost-road.com/mindful-journey/

I’m proud — and a little nervous — to make this public. It’s born from my own burnout and the small moments that helped me find a way back: a dewdrop on a fern, light on wet cobbles, the quiet of a temple roof. The project is new and imperfect, but it is real. Its aim is simple: offer ways to travel and live with more presence, curiosity, and care.

I hope this speaks to people who are open-minded, curious, and ready to try something different. If you are looking for simple happiness in the present moment, or want to explore mindful outings—walking, hiking, photography, circles, meditation—please take a look at the Lost Road page post and get in touch.

I welcome your thoughts, questions, and people who might want to join or co-create.

🎉 Lost Road Turns 4! 🎉

We may be blowing out just four candles for Lost Road, but our story goes way back—our core team has been crafting unforgettable journeys together as a DMC in China for over 13 years! So, while Lost Road is still young, our experience runs deep, and our passion for travel is stronger than ever.

Four candles on the cake, and what a journey it’s been! Sure, four years might not sound like a lifetime—but for us, it’s been an adventure worth celebrating.

When we started Lost Road in the middle of a global pandemic, travel was just a dream, our funds were limited, and the future was a big question mark. There were plenty of stumbles, a few “are we crazy?” moments, and a lot of late-night brainstorming. But as borders reopened, hope returned, and so did our travelers! Step by step, we grew, learned, and started seeing some amazing signs that we were on the right path.

This year, we’ve hit some major milestones:✨ We became a Virtuoso partner✨ We joined The Long Run (thelongrun.org), committing ourselves even more to Conservation, Community, Culture, and Commerce.✨ And most importantly, we’ve received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from our clients. (Seriously, your kind words keep us going!)

So, what’s next for Lost Road? We know—we’re only four, still a baby in the travel world, and we’re not trying to be the frog that outgrows the elephant! We’re here to keep learning, growing, and serving—one unforgettable journey at a time. Our top priority? Delivering the best possible experiences to every single traveler. Whether it’s a simple service or a high-end escape, everyone is a VIP with us. No shortcuts, no compromises.

With our new partnership with The Long Run, we’re doubling down on making travel a force for good—supporting conservation, uplifting communities, celebrating culture, and building sustainable commerce.

A huge THANK YOU to all our partners for trusting us with your clients, for spreading the word, and for cheering us on these past years. We wouldn’t be here without you!

And just a little reminder: while we’re proud of Lost Road, our true mission is to make YOU — our B2B partners—shine. We’re here to help you delight your clients every time they travel with us. Your success is our success.

Here’s to many more years of adventure, learning, and making a positive impact—together!

🌏✨ At Lost Road, we pour our passion, dedication, and love into every journey we create. As your trusted travel partner and DMC in China, our mission is to understand your needs and exceed your expectations, crafting the most memorable adventure possible.

But here’s a little secret: the true magic of travel is a partnership. We can open the doors, show you hidden wonders, and plan every detail—but the most unforgettable experiences happen when you open your mind and heart to the journey.

Many of us move through life seeing the world only at the surface, distracted by our thoughts and routines. Yet, when we travel, we have a chance to be truly present—to feel, see, and experience with fresh eyes. Some travelers embrace this, letting go of judgments and comparisons, and find themselves fully alive in each moment. Others, even in a new place, remain caught in their own thoughts, missing the beauty right in front of them.

So, as you travel with us, we invite you: be present. Let go of expectations and labels. Allow yourself to be surprised. The more open you are to the experience, the richer your journey will be.

Let’s create unforgettable memories—together.

Together for Change: The Power of Action Over Words 🌍✨

At Lost Road, we believe that doing good is not a competition, but a collaboration. Since our inception, we’ve been committed to taking meaningful action for the environment and our community. Our journey is not about being heroes; it’s about inspiring others—especially larger companies—to step up and make a difference.

Taking Action - From the very beginning, we have engaged in various initiatives to support our planet and the people around us. We’ve implemented educational programs for children and adults to raise awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution. Our co-founder, Olivier, has been an active member of the local rescue team for the past three years, participating in missions such as search and rescue operations during floods and water rescues on the river.

In addition to our efforts, we have also motivated many local businesses and individuals to contribute to the purchase of essential rescue material. The rescue team, composed entirely of dedicated volunteers, operates with limited governmental support, making community contributions even more vital.

During the challenging times of COVID-19, our finances took a hit, limiting our ability to act. Despite facing losses we committed to collecting a fixed amount from every client we served and we still do until today. We are allocating these funds to initiatives that benefit society and the environment.

Investing in Life-Saving Tools - This year, we decided to financially support the local rescue team by purchasing a sonar device, a critical tool to help find people in distress. In an era marked by increasing competition, stress, and violence, we are witnessing a rise in su***de attempts around the world and its also the case in our community. Quick action with effective equipment can make a life-saving difference.

Just yesterday, the rescue team held a small recognition ceremony to thank Lost Road for our contribution to acquiring this essential tool. Just hours after the ceremony, we received a call about two individuals who had jumped from a city bridge. We were able to save one of them.

A Call to Action - We believe in doing business for good. While it’s crucial for our company to generate profits for our team, we also recognize our responsibility to give back. We aim to share a portion of our profits and personal time to create positive change for people, society, and the environment.

Talking about sustainability and doing good is easy, but we believe that action speaks louder than words. We encourage both large and small businesses to become part of the broader community dedicated to this important mission. Together, we can create a ripple effect of positive change.
