🎨 2,000 years ago, someone painted 1,800 human figures, animals, and symbols on the vertical walls of a rocky cliff. The Huashan Rock Art—花山岩画—along the Zuojiang River in Guangxi is one of the largest rock art sites in the world.
The red ochre figures were created by the Luoyue people using animal blood, iron oxide, and animal fat.
How did they climb the vertical walls to paint? It's still unclear. Some figures are 3 meters tall and 40 meters above the ground.
It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016.
It's extremely rare on Western tours.
To get there, you take a boat along the river—and the journey itself is extraordinary.
💬 Who do you think were the people who painted these figures 2,000 years ago? What were their intentions?

Poco conosciuto fuori dall'Asia.
Dove?

🎹 An island without cars, motorcycles, or scooters. Only pedestrians, pianos, and colonial architecture.
Gulangyu—鼓浪屿—off the coast of Amoy (Xiamen) is one of China's most unique islands.
In the 19th and early 20th centuries, it was the city's international concession: British, Americans, Japanese, Dutch, and Spanish built villas in various architectural styles there.
The island has the highest concentration of pianos per people in the world—a tradition dating back to the colonial era when wealthy families imported them from Europe.
Today, it's car-free.
The sound of pianos filters through the open windows of historic homes.
It's romantic and melancholic at the same time.
💬 Have you ever heard piano music unexpectedly coming from an open window?

Perché sì o perché no?

🎨 Red, orange, purple, and yellow mountains that look like they were painted by a mad artist. China's Danxia—中国丹霞—is a unique geological landscape: colored sandstone eroded over millions of years to create bizarre shapes and impossible saturated colors.
The most famous sites are Zhangye (in Gansu, with rainbow colors), Longhu (in Jiangxi), and Taining (in Fujian).
The UNESCO World Heritage Site includes six sites in six different provinces.
The best light is at sunset, when the low sun enhances the reds and oranges.
Some call it "Sunrise on the Moon"—and it's an apt name.
💬 Have you ever seen colorful mountains like this? Where?

Pochissimi italiani ci vanno.
È ancora quasi sconosciuto in Europa.

⛰ Peaks emerging from the clouds.
Crooked pines clinging to the rock.
Mist that changes every minute. Mount Huangshan—黄山—has inspired Chinese painting for centuries.
Painters of the Shan Shui (water mountain) school have reproduced it thousands of times: those impossible silhouettes of peaks among the clouds have become a symbol of Chinese aesthetics around the world.
The 72 main peaks, the crooked pines, and the "seas of clouds" that fill the valleys are spectacles that change with the time of day and the season.
Dawn is the most photographed moment.
Access is by cable car or on foot.
There are refuges at the summit for those who want to sleep among the clouds.
💬 Have you ever slept high up waiting for sunrise? What was it like?

È ancora pochissimo visitato dai turisti internazionali.
💬 Ti affascinano le civiltà scomparse? Quale mistero ti incuriosisce di più?
