Our first road trip: third stop: Aguachica - Santa Marta.
It was 2019, sounds like very far away in time, but not really. But at the time we were still able to interact with others without having to wear a mask, my son could enjoy meeting new people without the fear of getting or passing a virus... I really miss those times. So we continued our way to Aguachica, where we spent the night cuz the next day we wanted to continue going north to Santa Marta. The hotel we stayed at, was very comfortable and the staff was very sweet. There was no option to eat at the hotel so we decided to go out for a little exploration. In Colombia, most of the little towns are built around a church, so most parks around the church are very beautiful and people gather together to talk, eat ice cream, drink coffee, and so on. This allows people to interact, get to know each other, and why not? become friends. That's why most people in small towns know the names and last names of the inhabitants. SO in the park next to the church, Maxi had a wonderful time, he used the battery cars, painted, played with other kids until getting really hungry and tired. There are several eating options around the town, but this time we just had a fruit salad and went back to the Hotel Calle Real Aguachica. There, Maxi met a wonderful friend with whom he played till late at night. The next day we continued on our way to Santa Marta. By the way what a beautiful landscape for road-tripping. Once we got there we Stayed at a small but astonishing small hotel, located close to a beautiful beach. Unfortunately I forgot the name of the Hotel and honestly we spent most of the time outside, visiting Acuario Santa Marta, El Rodadero - Santa Marta, Magdalena, Colombia, Parque Nacional Tayrona. Taganga, Magdalena, Colombia, and so on. In Santa Marta, there are many beautiful beaches to snorkel, or just to chill. The Landscape is beautiful, and in Taganga there are several hostels and companies that offer diving equipment for rent. Once we are able to travel again, for sure we will go back to beautiful Santa Marta!

Our first roadtrip second stop: Mariquita Tolima.
After having spent the night in our tent, and being attended by the sweetest people in NATURAL EXTREME Y GRANJA DE LA TIA LOLO, w e continued our way to a new destination: MARIQUITA TOLIMA "TIERRA DE PASIONES". Mariquita is a small town with beautiful hauses and a very nice tropical weather. It is warm enough to feel like summer, but not that much so that you get sticky. We were very lucky to find our hotel quickly. it was a boutique hotel called Hotel Casa Amarilla. the host and owner is a very kind man that is always making sure the hotel is clean, and the guests feel home.
It also has a beautiful but not so big swimming pool, perfect to refresh after the tan or just relax with friends. Maxi enjoyed the pool very much and the housekeeper from the hotel, was very kind to him. She made him feel like a king. She would not only prepare his favourite dishes but also play with him whenever he wanted. We were so comfortable and happy with the hotel, that we booked another night for stopping there again on our return trip. we did not get to know the town very much because we only stayed one night, but we got to drink delicious fruit juice in front of the church right in the center of the town. Right, most towns in colombia are built same way as Spanish towns, around the Church 😝. The landscape and biodiversity from this side of Colombia is very beautiful, perfect for people who like road-tripping, like me.
Next day, we had a swim, and after lunch, started driving to the next destination... by that time, we were not very sure of where we were going to sleep that night, and that was exciting! No rush, no schedule, just stop wherever we think it is a good idea, those are real vacations!

Our first Roadtrip, first stop: Granja de la tía Loló.

It was Summer 2018, when still traveling around Colombia by car was safe and there was no violence or risk of being kidnapped, or catching a strange virus spreading everywhere.
This was one of the first trips I did with my son, as a single Mother. I thought I t was fun to just take the car, and start driving around Colombia stopping in different places. Maxi, my son was so excited to go on this adventure with me, and to be honest I was very excited too.
So we left Bogotá and our first stop was: Nimaima. A very small town located around 1,5 hours away from Bogotá if you take the road Bogotá-medellín. This is a great place to get disconnected from the stress of big cities like where we live in, because it is surrounded by nature, beautiful landscapes and the weather is very friendly. It is not super hot, but it is still warm enough to tan a bit, and go for a swim every now and then. There is also possibility to do extreme sports like rafting, climbing and canopy.
We decided that in this stop, we were going camping. It was the first time Maxi experienced what camping looks like so we made a fire and everything, for him to enjoy the whole experience.
People from GRANJA DE LA TÍA LOLO were very nice and attentive. They helped us setting up the fire and putting up the tent. The next morning they made sure we had a proper breakfast (very tasty by the way) according to our veggie way of eating. We hiked around the place a bit, played in the pool for a while and then continued our way until the next stop. Here are some pics of our first camping experience together.

The sea with 7 colours ❣️.
Today I woke up a bit nostalgic. Since I am a little girl, I have always had this strange connection to de sea, the sand, the shore, the infinity and the universe of lif forms that the ocean contains. I am a big fan of going for long sessions of snorkeling and exploring the beauty and wild in salt water. Luckily, before all this chaos happened I had the opportunity to go to, what for my judgment is one of the most beautiful paradises on earth: San Andres Islas, Colombia. San Andrés is part of a small group of Islands located in the Caribbean. It contains the second biggest Choral reef reservoir on earth, after Australia, and due to the different Depths in the ocean due to continental platform, it gives the impression it's water have 7 different types of blue and green colours. Due to the same fact of having different depths between relatively small distances, it is very common to find natural pools of marine water with really beautiful fish and marine species like Starfishes, chorals, Sea Urchins, among others.
People from the island still preserve their language (Creole), a mixture between English, french, Spanish and some African dialects, but most of the population speaks English and Spanish as well because the primary economic Activity is tourism. The Islanders are super nice, warm-hearted and welcoming and the food is delicious. There are several museums and mythical places to visit around the island, like Morgan the Pirate's cave, the blowing hole, San Andrés museum.
For those who like nature, there is a beautiful fresh water reservoir in which also the oldest Rastafari community left on the island lives. Besides that, there is Johnny key, where the "Sea flower" Natural reservoir is located. The places to stay are very varied in price and style. There are all-inclusive. Resorts, Hostels, all-inclusive low budget Hotels, Airbnb, even couch surfing for the ones that prefer a more realistic experience.
The magic of this Caribbean paradise, trapped a piece of my heart to the point that I always want to go back. I have visited it frequently since I was 4 and I hope after all this mess I can go back to my San Andrés ❣️❣️❣️.

The royal route: A mixture of history, talking walls, and magic.
After Honda, the city with many bridges, My good Friend Simone Ruediger and I, stopped at a really beautiful and small town called Guaduas, located a few hours away from Colombia's capital city. Guaduas, is a historically relevant place because it is the birthplace of one of our most important heroines: Policarpa Salavarrieta, or better known as "La Pola". She was a rebel spirit who contributed with big steps, to Colombia's independence. Apart from that, Guaduas also has conserved part of the Ancient royal route, in Spanish Called Camino Real Honda-Santa Fe de Bogotá, which was a very important road that favored commercial trade, business, Biodiversity investigations, and transport in general to the capital, From the mid-1500s until the beginning of the Twentieth century. The actual Royal royal route involves other cities too, that wanted to connect to Magdalena River, one of the most important Ports of South America.

The place is full of magic, indeed, when walking around the city, it gives the sensation of having traveled on a time machine back to those years, of Spanish Architecture, old ways of dressing, connection with nature, and so on.
We stayed at a hotel in Central Park in this small town, called El Portón de Enriqueta. The owners were excellent people, they gave us clues on what else to do, and connected us to Marlene, the Guide, who showed us both, the royal road and Policarpa's House.
The food, the people, everything there is very Colombian. Everywhere we went we found kind-hearted people and we had an amazing time. The weather is beautiful during most of the year, with temperatures between 22-28 degrees. Here are some pictures of ou most memorable times.

A Tiny water mirror of Magdalena River, in the middle of the nothing:
After we visited the city with the ponds, we read on the road as we were driving: ” La Charca De Guarinocito”. It caught our attention because of the name, and we wanted to go check it out. As its name mentions, “charca” in Spanish, makes reference to a small lake or pond. In the case of Charca de Guarinocito, it is a piece of Rio Magdalena, with quiet water, surrounded by a beautiful tropical forest. Tons of bird species fly around the trees and over the water, the landscape is just breathtaking, gives the sensation of inner piece and a special type of healing magic when navigating the water. We spend the afternoon surrounded with the immensely beautiful landscape and the tranquility of the water. It was a really nice place to run into, just by casualty as it was not in our plans! And this is what I love about road trips, letting the road surprise me with magic. When all the Virus crisis is over, I would love to take my son with me to Charca De Guarinosito.

Honda: A city of may bridges.
After a beautiful contact with nature, we continued our road-trip along Colombian Andes and our next stop was in Honda Tolima. Beautiful landscapes, mountains all around, a city full of history and colorful houses. Most people call it the city of bridges because of the more than 40 of them that allow the transit of people above the Magdalena river, the most important and longest river from Colombia. The city used to be a very important port of the country, when, during the earlier 19 hundreds The main transport system between other cities and the capital, Bogota, was made by Ship.
We stayed in a beautiful Farm-Hotel called Waka Hotel. It used to be a farm in the past, therefore, they produce their own cheese and their own butter. Really good. Apart from the bridges, we visited as well the Magdalena River Museum, Museo del Río Magdalena, Honda, located in the center of the town and walked around the beautiful and colorful houses. The people from the small towns in Colombia are very friendly and open, and we had a lot of fun. The weather is warm and nice, and the landscape between the mountains and the river is just perfect. It is important to use sunblock and mosquito's repellent when walking along the river, because of obvious reasons.
What magic land! One day I will be back to show My son the wonders of our country.
