Wow! Vermilion Cardinal: Punk rockers restricted to dry desert scrub and dense thorny thickets along the Caribbean coasts of Venezuela and Colombia. Closely related to the Northern Cardinal and Pyrrhuloxia. Incredible birds! Seen during our N Colombia Birding Trip in March 2023🤘

Crowned Woodnymph: Denizen of the understory of humid lowland forests from Guatemala to Ecuador, including N Colombia where these photos are from. In some parts of its range this species will migrate, not across borders, but to higher elevations - up to 1,200m. Considered Least Concern by IUCN its populations are threatened due to deforestation. Seen during the Alight Tours Colombia Birding Trip in March 2023.

White-lored Warbler: A ‘Near Threatened’ endemic species restricted to Colombia’s Santa Marta mountains. This cute warbler was one of 15 Santa Marta endemics we saw on our Colombia Birding Trip in March 2023.

We found a Yellow-chinned Spinetail (LC) with nesting material almost as large as itself. While visiting Salamanca National Park, Colombia. This sp. is found across much of S. America, preferring marsh habitat. Nests are made from interwoven sticks, like the one in this bird’s beak, they lay 2-5 eggs, and regularly parasitized by Striped Cuckoo. Seen during our Colombia Birding Trip in March 2023.
