PILAR EL MAIZ OR POUNDING THE CORN IN PALENQUE

Pilar is the traditional way of pounding the corn in a large wooden mortero well known as Pilón, to remove the husk/shell/skin in the corn before cooking

Eventually the process for the arepas, empanadas, etc, continue with grinding the corn/placing the corn in a hand grinder, as a result, the masa or paste
