Your friendly Cartagena cruise excursion guide will pick you up right from your Cartagena cruise pier. It is a lovely 25-minute drive from the pier to the mangroves at La Boquilla. You will pass through the city of Cartagena on the way there. Your English speaking guide will be giving you a lot of information and interesting facts about the area, Cartagena and Colombia while you are on board the air conditioned transportation. The guide will also be pointing out the sights as you pass by. When you arrive at the small village of La Boquilla, you will be helped aboard your wooden canoe. There canoes hold 5 passengers and will be driven by one of the village captains. The ride through the mangroves is awesome. The name La Boquilla means the Nozzle. The village is so named because of the small, narrow channels through and the tunnels formed by the overhanging mangrove trees. You will pass by Virgin Lagoon, John Polo Lagoon, Fisherman Island and the mangrove tunnels known as Love, Happiness and Remembrance. There are numerous photo opportunities and plenty of flora and fauna to capture on your camera. Some of the many bird species you might see include Pied Billed Grebe, Neotropical Cormorant, Herons and Egrets, Bare Faced Ibis, Ruddy Ducks, Vermillion Cardinal and many more species. Your boat captain will point out things along the way. This area has been used in many movie films. When you return from the canoe ride, you will have the opportunity to stretch your legs and walk around the small village, meet some of the local residents and see the way real folks live.
