Purewild Adventure Travel

Purewild Adventure Travel Plan and create personalized, sustainable adventure trips, to travel like a local, bring out the best in you and Discover Your Nature!

Spectacular landscapes, untouched nature, remote wilderness. Often breathtaking, sometimes overwhelming, and always fragile. To discover these places of total beauty we go beyond tourists‘ paths to seek a deeper understanding of nature and its interconnectedness. We may find it in the majesty of a 10,000 year old glacier, or the wisdom of indigenous people that have inhabited their land for countl

ess generations. Aware that we are just guests, we immerse with respect and sustainability in mind, staying in unique lodges or sometimes a field bed beneath a million stars. Our real luxury is the unique experience we take home. A once in a lifetime adventure that we begin to sense long before we embark, that resonates, and becomes part of us - pure and wild…

One of the routes of our daily bike rides here in Santa Marta, Colombia, is ‘Ciénaga’, a rather flat and not too long ride we usually choose for softer outings.

The turnaround is about 5k before the settlement itself, but had recently been extended by a scenic stretch that circumvents the town on the way towards Barranquilla and Cartagena.

Cyclists love this new extension because of the beautiful morning light with the sun rising above the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

They usually turn around half way of this new ‘Variante’ at a roundabout for convenience. I prefer the extra mile to stop and see the real Ciénaga, which is a a massive, ecologically vital wetland and lagoon system of global importance.

There is an abundance of endemic and migratory birds to observe. And watching the local fishermen peacefully going about their business has an equally grounding and energising effect.

No better way to start the day in our Colombian paradise.

Australia’s ‘Top End’ topped everything on this journey down under. Small fixed wing aircraft took us from Darwin to the beautiful wetlands of , and on to the vast and varied landscapes of .

Exploring by boat, 4x4, and on foot we were stunned by the abundance of exotic wildlife and amazed by the 50,000 year long presence of the aboriginal people, manifested in massive amounts of rock paintings scattered across these remote lands.

The warm hospitality of our hosts, star filled night skies, and a final swim in one of the natural pools added to making this trip to the Northern Territory, still below the radar of most Australia visitors, so worthwhile and unforgettable.

Acknowledging that ATE26 is held on the traditional grounds of the Kaurnah people, paying respect to their elders past and present during the South Australia Showcase in the iconic Adelaide Oval Cricket Stadium.

Note to self: the perfectly kept grass pitch beneath your feet is a reminder of glorious weekend football matches among friends - played on equally immaculate ‚fields of dreams’ our Munich University had inherited from the 72 Olympics.

Beach boxes are a unique, and to foreign visitors little known part of Greater Melbourne’s culture. They are ideal for chilling by the beautiful and calm waters of the surrounding bays. Some of them run for over half a million dollars.

Thanks to our host Nic Cooper of Wild Adventures Melbourne to share this unique experience with us - and also for bringing along his well sorted ‘Gin Lab”.

An afternoon well spent…

Excited to be back in Australia for ATE26. Discovering Melbourne, the first stage this year, from above and within. Impressed by the omnipresence of indigenous heritage, its vibrant arts scene, and being surrounded by iconic sports venues. Vibrant and beautiful Melbourne rightly is regarded one of the most liveable Cities worldwide.

So I just met two guys from London at my favourite tavern here in Santa Marta. They were quite cheerful and at one point I asked what they thought made Colombia special. The answer I got: “we just come from the conference in Santa Marta about transitioning away from fossil fuels (the one the USA, Russia, China did not get invited to) and I said to the organizer: you know, I think we will win. And he replied: yes, we will win, and it will be beautiful…” 😊

There is no place like this on Earth. The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta - World’s highest coastal Mountain Range, Heart of the World to the indigenous people here, teeming with wildlife and exotic birds. My back yard is remote and yet accessible, and helps change perspectives. A place of energy you immediately feel as you let yourself immerse.
