On Sundays, Medellin's residents (knows as Paisas) and expats gather at the Mercados Campesinos Farmers Market in Parque de la Presidenta in the district of El Poblado to work out, eat, shop, and socialize together..
This past Sunday, I joined some of the locals on their Sunday morning routine and started my day off with fitness and fun along Avenida El Poblado, where locals stroll, run and bike along the tree-lined boulevard which is closed off to traffic Sunday mornings. They then head over to the farmers market to finish their work-outs at the park's free fitness and stretch machines next to the market before having traditional breakfast foods and fresh fruit juices prepared on-site and shopping for their weekly provisions including Fruits and Veggies, grains, glutten-free breads, pastries, jams, nuts, dried fruits, salad dressings, olive oils, blueberry wines, and eco-friendly essential oil products.
This evening, I prepared my first Medellin 'Farm to Table" dinner salad I like to make back home, made from ingredients I bought at the farmers market including lettuce greens, mango, avocado, tomatoes, cucumber, mixed nuts and a fresh herb-garden dressing.. And a great way to kick off my R&D work week discovering the city and meeting with industry leaders in tourism, real estate, online media and foreign business investors. Pura Vida para los Paisas!
