Migration season is just around the corner! Day 25/30 .
Soon, we’ll have the chance to spot this incredible migratory bird, the Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Pico Gordo Degollado *Pheucticus ludovicianus*, arriving in Minca all the way from Canada and the United States.
They typically begin arriving in Colombia around September and October and stay through the boreal winter, until March or April. 🌎❄️➡️🌴
With its striking red throat and chest, this beautiful visitor is always a special sight—and a perfect guest for bird lovers and photographers alike. 📸❤️
Minca is waiting… and so are the best photographers! 😉

⛰️ In all my years birding the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, I’ve only had one chance to photograph this incredible rarity!

My passion , and my long standing habit is to personally explore every ecosystem of the Sierra Nevada in search of the very best birding spots.
It was during one of these personal explorations that I spotted this incredible rarity.

Day 23/30 . Meet the Lilac tailed Parrolet, Touit batavicus, el Periquito de los siete colores. Is so elusive that it isn’t even included in some bird guides for La Sierra.

This is a true mega-lifer! This mountain never stops surprising you!

One of the most iconic birds you can spot in Northern Colombia! Day 22/30 Vermillon Cardinal, Cardenal guajiro, Cardinalis phoeniceus. The brightest red spot in the Guajira desert! Here in one of our routes for Northern Colombia in Camarones, it’s name in the indigenous wayuu language is “isho”.

🇨🇴*Semi-endemic:** *Catharus aurantiirostris sierrae*, a subspecies of the beautiful Orange-billed Nightingale-Thrush. A very special lifer that we spotted along our birdwatching route in the coffee-growing highlands of Minca, on the way to El Dorado Reserve and the most important birding hotspots in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.⛰️

Day 21/30 gray-headed tanager
The Gray-headed Tanager (Eucometis penicillata) A *rare* find in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta midlands, is a visitor of the active feeders in our route, offering a good perspectives for identification and photography. It is recognized by its bright yellow underparts, olive-green upperparts, and a distinctively bushy gray head.

*rare* Rosy-thrush Tanager, Rosita Canora
Day 20/30 Field memories challenge.
This is one of the most beautiful pink Tanager we can spot at the mid-elevation route around Minca! The Rosy Thrush-Tanager is a spectacular species and the rarest of the six tanager species found at this altitude. This is the subspecies we have in La Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Rhodinocichla rosea harteri.
